Nicki Minaj took to social media to express her displeasure after the Grammy Awards announced that her song, “Super Freaky Girl”, would be considered in the “Pop” category instead of “Rap” next year. 2023. Nicki explains that she’s not happy with the Recording Academy’s decision because she feels it doesn’t apply fairly to other rappers. “I have no problem getting kicked out of the RAP category as long as we ALL are treated RIGHT,” Nicki tweeted. “If the SFG has 2B moving, so does the “Big Energy”! ANYONE who says different is simply someone who hates Nicki or trolls. “
“Big Energy” is a song by the rising rapper, Latto. Lengthy Instagram video, Nicki expands on her frustration. She stated that the Recording Academy’s decision to move her out of the rap genre was part of a “coordinated effort to give newer artists something they really don’t deserve.” compared to those who deserve it [it] for several years. ” Nicki points out that the same producers were used for “Super Freaky Girl” and “Big Energy,” so she believes that if one is turned into the Pop genre, so should the other.
When Latto came across Nicki’s comment, she Twitter clapping back. “Damn, I can’t win if I lose,” she tweeted, without mentioning Nicki directly. “All these awards/noms I can’t even celebrate.” Then Nicki got angry, throwing stones at Latto for not standing up for Nicki during her battle for the Grammys. “This Karen probably mentioned my name in over 100 interviews,” she tweeted, which was eventually deleted. “She said she was waiting Pink Friday with her Barbie necklace, bangs, pink hair… but today, the locusts decided to stay silent; rather than speaking up for the Black woman she calls her biggest inspiration.”
While Nicki revealed that Latto had texted her about the situation, Nicki was upset that the rising star did not speak out publicly about it. Latto defends herself and explains that she doesn’t like what Nicki is talking about she song while trying to prove his point. She also accused Nicki of subtracting her with negative messages in the months leading up to this film. “I don’t want to use the Internet s *** w. sum1 I reached out,” she wrote. “Just like the first time I texted you asking about your ongoing subsites. I wanted to speak up because I said I agree but the way you talk about it sounds malicious. “

In another message, Latto mentioned Nicki’s age, writing, “You’re actually older than my mom, tryna is a bully.” The age comment prompted Nicki to continue, as she clapped her hands in response, “Age shame when you look like YOU’re a pushover 40. Age shame but START for a feature. Imagine what gen dem will do in 10 years. Oh, you’re in your 20s. Okay. At least it matches your album sales. You sold 20K right? Crazy. That’s why you’re really mad. “
Nicki then went on to share old DMs between her and Latto, where Latto asked her to collaborate. “Every DM from the start is about a feature,” she explains. “I am kind every time. But I feel she pulled behind the scenes with a few different white men (will not name names for now). ” Nicki went on to criticize Latto as a “Karen whose name is someone else to blame for her album failing.” She also went on to emphasize that Latto’s real problem with her is that Nicki has turned down a potential partnership on multiple occasions.
