Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez sorry for making public threats Lionel Messi after he insulted a video in the dressing room that appeared to show the Argentinian striker knocking the Mexico jersey to the floor.

Alvarez said: “The past few days, I have been swept away by my passion and love for my country and I have made comments that are out of place. “So I want to apologize to Messi and the people of Argentina.”

Messi, 35, hit back after Argentina’s 2-0 win over Poland on the final day of Group C, helping “Albiceleste” secure a place in the World Cup round of 16.
