On Wednesday, however, Alvarez tweeted that he had gone overboard and apologized to Messi and the people of Argentina.
Alvarez said: “The past few days, I have been swept away by my passion and love for my country and I have made comments that are out of place. “So I want to apologize to Messi and the people of Argentina.”

Messi, 35, hit back after Argentina’s 2-0 win over Poland on the final day of Group C, helping “Albiceleste” secure a place in the World Cup round of 16.
