Fifa Women’s World Cup trophy hits town in lead-up to Filipinas’ campaign
MANILA, Philippines- The Fifa Women’s World Cup trophy arrived in the country on Wednesday for a number of activities to raise support for the Philippine women’s soccer team’s campaign for the Philippines. global tournament in July.
The gilded trophy was unveiled during an event held at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati city led by Australian ambassador to the Philippines Hae Kyong Yu and his New Zealand counterpart Peter Kell.
Fifa representative Sarah Gandoin and Philippine Football Federation general secretary Ed Gastanes also participated in the presentation of the trophy weighing 4.6 kg and 47 cm high, according to the Fifa Museum.
A public event will be held later in the day at the nearby Glorietta Activity Center with activities including appearances by team members who are in the country.
The Philippines is the third stop on a busy cup-fighting tour that will run until weeks before the World Cup kicks off in both Australia and New Zealand.
The tour started in Japan before being brought to Korea a few days ago.
The Philippines team, placed in Group A along with hosts New Zealand, Norway and Switzerland, are looking to make an impression in their first World Cup appearance.
