Fetterman reveals extent of heart problems: ‘I avoided going to the doctor.’

Former Vice President Dick Cheney was implanted with a defibrillator in 2001. He completed two terms in the White House, including an arduous re-election campaign in 2004.

“The doctors have told me I need to continue to rest, eat healthy, exercise and focus on my recovery, and that’s exactly what I’m doing,” Mr Fetterman said. . “It will take some time to return to the campaign like when I led the preliminary round. It’s frustrating – more so because this is my own fault – but bear with me, I need a little more time. I’m not 100% back yet, but I’m getting closer every day. ”

As he returns to the campaign trail, it looks likely that his Republican opponent will be Dr. Mehmet Oz, a prominent TV doctor. With a statewide recount still underway on Friday in the Republican Senate primaries and no official call to the race, David McCormick gave in to the race for Dr. Oz.

Ed Rendell, a former Democratic state governor and former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said in an interview Friday that he is not shy about Mr. Fetterman’s fitness to serve. He downplayed how much Mr Fetterman’s health would weigh on voters’ minds, saying he didn’t think it would be an issue.

“When I was governor, Republicans used to say that I needed to eat a cheese steak to avoid a heart attack, and I never did,” Mr. Rendell said.

Nancy Patton Mills, the chair of the Pennsylvania Democratic party, did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday. The Democratic Senate Campaign Committee was not immediately available for comment on Friday.

Mr Fetterman has not been on the campaign trail since suffering a stroke and has occasionally released short videos since. In a sign that Mr Fetterman is returning to some political involvement, Senator Bob Casey, a Democrat of Pennsylvania, wrote on Twitter that he had been on a “virtual date” with Mr. Fetterman and his wife, Gisele Barreto Fetterman, earlier. Friday afternoon.

“Looking forward to more on the campaign trail this summer!” Mr. Casey wrote.
