Ferrari files new patent for future electric sports car platform

In the middle of last year, FerrariJohn Elkann CEO confirms that the company will launch The first all-electric sports car by 2025. It looks like Ferrari is ahead in development, as the company just filed a patent for a new electrified sports car platform, which we expect will underpin their upcoming EV rival. give Tesla Roadster.

FerrariThe patent application is for the chassis and floor, with space for two battery packs. There is a larger unit mounted at the rear of the vehicle and a wide, flat package fixed below the passenger compartment, which has been shaped to accommodate enough space for the occupants. Both batteries are fixed to their own floor section, which is separate from the vehicle’s main frame and bolted to the vehicle from below.

The shape of the prototype in Ferrari’s patent sketches also suggests that the company’s first all-electric model won’t stray too far from the design language of an internal combustion engine vehicle. The battery pack and electric motor will be located at the rear of the vehicle, taking up space normally allocated for the internal combustion engine and transmission.

Although Ferrari’s patent drawings show that the new platform has been designed with an all-electric powertrain, the company says it has left enough space in the proposed architecture for a hybrid sports car with an internal combustion engine based on the same platform.

Maybe we’ll soon see another low-riding hybrid from Ferrari in the middle of the decade, around the same time the company launches its first EV.

Ferrari says that there is enough space in both front and rear of the pedestal to house the internal combustion engine. However, judging by these images, the platform will have a similar shaped user interface F8 Tributo and 296 GTBwhich means there won’t be anywhere near enough space for the petrol engine up front.

However, if Ferrari were to mount an internal combustion engine on this proposed platform, it would most likely be located behind the passenger compartment, with the limited space in front used to accommodate the electric motor.
