Father Of Chennai Student, Murdered By Stalker, Allegedly Dies By Suicide

Tamil Nadu Police have transferred the case to Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department
Chennai:
The father of a Tamil Nadu university student – who was killed after a stalker allegedly pushed her in front of a moving train on Thursday – has died in a suspected suicide. Police said they were awaiting the man’s autopsy report.
Residents in the Chennai neighborhood where the father and daughter live said they were devastated.
Tamil Nadu police have referred the case to the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department, or CB-CID.
Prime Minister MK Stalin offered condolences.
“We all have a collective responsibility to ensure that such incidents do not happen to any woman. I have been deeply saddened by the tragic death of a college student. Readers of it must also be very sad”, the Head of the Minister’s Office added, whether boys or girls, children need to be raised with concern for society and protection and respect for others.
“Social education is just as important as textbook education. We should teach them to respect and protect others as much as their own,” he said.
Investigators suspect that the man, who is said to have pushed the student in front of the train carriage, may have proposed to her and she refused.
“A rejected lover seems to be behind this. Railway police are also investigating. We will support all,” Chennai Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal told NDTV.
Initial reports showed no CCTV footage. Another officer of the city police confirmed this. “We don’t know why, but we heard that there was no CCTV footage,” the official said.
The case parallels the murder of a technician woman on the platform of Chennai’s Nungambakkam train station by a stalker, who later died by suicide in a judicial detention facility. In that case, there are no CCTV cameras at the station.
