In just its fourth year, the Fasig-Tipton California fall sale has become a major event on the West Coast calendar. Scheduled for September 27 at the Fairplex in Pomona, it comes right after Keeneland’s big September sale in Kentucky. This year, Fasig-Tipton has added a section for race-age horses, including some 2-year-olds. California does not have a discount program specifically for 2-year-olds.
Although the upcoming sale is not limited to California crossbreeds, the majority of those listed in the catalog are in-state bred. Cal-breds proved popular at this sale, especially due to the lucrative incentive program and the numerous shares in the Golden State Series.
Tom’s Regret is one of the recent graduates to have won shares of the sale. A $20,000 purchase in last year’s sale, ‘s 2-year-old daughter Tom’s Tribute –Pure via Quality Sugar won this year’s Kentucky Juvenile Share at Churchill Downs and runner-up at Fasig-Tipton Debutante Stakes at Santa Anita for a total income of $161,105.
Rancho San Miguel deposited a half brother with Tom’s Regret, by Mr. Prancealot , for sale as Hip 263. The foal is from Sir Prancealot’s first California crop, who selected winners from previous crops in Europe and Australia. Sir Prancealot stood at Rancho San Miguel and continued to shuttle to Australia.
Stallions were popular on the West Coast. Sir Prancealot colts topped the sale this year by the Northern California Purebred Breeders Association and the Washington Purebred Owners & Breeders Association sale.

Terry Lovingier’s Lovacres Ranch has contracted with EZ Pharis for sale in 2021 and is supplying his half-brother, Hip 153, son of Smokem . Smokem is a young California stallion, by Union Rags , who stood at Lovacres. EZ Indy is the champion’s half sister Banshee Breeze.
