Fans believe Tank Davis Fighting Abner will be next

Via Sam Volz: Fans still believe that Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis will take on Abner Mares in January when the WBA lightweight champion returns to the ring.

Tanks (27-0.25 KOs) will get a lot of interest from boxing fans when/if the match against Mares is announced because the former three-division world champion hasn’t won a fight since 2017 and young people have never heard of him.

Given the way Tank Davis is separated from the quality guys at 135 due to advertising and network issues, Mares will likely be good for him in the January battle. At least older heavyweight boxing fans have heard of Mares and will remember him during his heyday between 2010 and 2015.

Negotiate the main objective of Tank against social media / hybrid boxer Ryan Garcia rumored to have stalled due to DAZN wanting dual advertising and dual broadcast sharing situation with Showtime. Without Showtime for DAZN to join the fight, there wouldn’t be a Tank vs Ryan fight.

A lot of time has been awaited by the Tank trying to set up a fight against 23-year-old Ryan, and many fans want to see him move on. Having better fighters than Ryan would have been easy fights for the Tank, but Mayweather Promotions didn’t try to make those fights.

Giving up the fight with Ryan Garcia opens up the possibility of Tanks fighting these quality fighters:

  • Michel Rivera
  • Vasyl Lomachenko
  • Shakur Stevenson
  • William Zepeda
  • Devin Haney
  • Jamaine Ortiz
  • Jeremiah Nakathila

Despite Tank’s recent denials on social media about him not fighting 36-year-old Mares (31-3-2, 15 KOs), fans still believe that’s who he’ll be defending against. again on Showtime pay-per-view.

It’s going to be a tough trade for PPV, but then again, so will Tank’s fights with Rolly Romero, Yuriorkis Gamboa, and Leo Santa Cruz.

Gervonta’s career was said to have stalled because his promoters at Mayweather Promotions kept me away from quality guys at lightweight.

The former tank three-class world champion is now 28 years old, and he’ll be 3o before you know it. The sad thing is, he’s yet to fight for a major belt in lightweight, and he’s rotting on the vine, wasting his career fighting underdogs like Rolly and Ryan Garcia .

The tank hasn’t fought for a major belt since moving up to the 135-lb division. He holds the minor WBA belt when he should be challenging for the more prestigious main WBA belt or three other titles.
