The family of a British man who died after a “non-work related incident” involving three Britons on an oil rig in Qatar has paid their respects to “a beautiful soul, only one”.
Robert Robson, 38, was working on the Seafox Burj oil rig when he died following the incident in the early hours of Monday.
A second Briton was also injured and treated in hospital and a third has been detained by authorities.
All three are contractors working for Film-Ocean, an underwater inspection company.
Mr Robson’s family issued a tribute along with a photo of Mr Robson with his partner Kristie Graham.
They said: “Robbie is a wonderful, one-of-a-kind, beautiful soul.
“He was a loving spouse, father, son, brother and uncle who was tragically taken away too soon.
“He was an irreplaceable friend to many, and Robbie will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
“As a family, we ask for privacy at this time.”
Film-Ocean said in a statement: “Film-Ocean Ltd can unfortunately confirm one person was seriously injured and another was injured following a non-work-related incident at an offsite installation facility. off the coast of Qatar.
“A third person has been detained by the police and is assisting the Qatari authorities in their investigation.
“The injured worker was treated at a hospital in Qatar, but was later discharged.
“The relatives of those involved have been notified and the company is working to ensure they receive the appropriate support.
“All three employees are contracted to Film-Ocean and were working on the platform at the time of the incident, which was reported at around 01:40 Arabic Standard Time on Monday 12 December.
“Film-Ocean is in contact with the Office of Development and Commonwealth and Foreign Affairs, as well as other stakeholders, to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.”
