Fall Guys, the popular obstacle-based multiplayer game, will be free to play on June 21.
Mediatonic, the developer behind Fall Guys, announced this today during a special live stream for the game. June 21 will also see the launch of Season 1 and the long-awaited arrival of Fall Guys on the Xbox, Switch, and Epic Games Store platforms.
In fact, in preparation for the move to free-to-play, Mediatonic says PS4 players will need to download a new version of the game that’s currently available. All your existing cosmetics and crowns will be carried over. When the Xbox version of the game goes live, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will get access to the first of three cosmetic items they’ll receive, the Ultimate Perks. The second cosmetic will drop in the second month, and the third in the third month.
Elsewhere in the stream, Mediatonic said new levels and obstacles will be added to the game in Season 1 along with new challenges, cosmetics and more. For those who already own Fall Guys, whether purchased via purchase or when it launches on PlayStation Plus, you’ll get a free Legacy Pack, which includes three skins, a preview of a free pass to play Season 1 first, and beyond. Sign in to Fall Guys by June 21 to access the Legacy Pack.
As you might expect with Fall Guys being free to play, there will be a free Season Pass and a Premium Season Pass. The free pass will include some cosmetics and more but the premium pass is what you want if you’re after the most elusive items. With this new change, you will no longer be able to use Crown to buy items in Fall Guys. Instead, your Crowns will increase your level as you progress through the season, and they will be converted to Kudos, which are the Fall Guys in-game currency.
The stream ends with “one more thing” and another is a tease that a level creator is active. As for when it is expected to appear in the game, that is still unknown.
