Facebook will ‘temporarily’ allow Ukrainians to call for the death of Putin and Russian soldiers

Facebook is changing a rule that prohibits users from calling for violence in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Change, for the first time Reuters, which allows the people of Ukraine and some other countries to “call for violence against Russians and Russian soldiers in the wake of Ukraine’s aggression”. People in Ukraine, Poland and Russia are also allowed to “call death for Russian President Vladimir Putin or Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.”

Facebook Spokesperson Andy Stone in a statement that the company “temporarily” allowed certain posts that would have previously been taken down in accordance with the company’s policy against inciting violence. He added that the company would not allow “credible calls for violence against Russian civilians.” The company will also remove specific credible threats against Putin and Lukashenko, according to a memo reported by Reuters.

“As a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, we’ve temporarily allowed forms of political expression that would normally violate our rules, such as violent speech, such as,” Stone said. “Death to the Russian Invaders”. “We will still not allow credible calls for violence against Russian civilians.”

This change underscores the extent to which social media platforms are rushing to adjust their content policies in light of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Facebook has taken several steps to limit the influence of Russian state media and take down a network of fake accounts that promote pro-Russian propaganda. The Russian government responded by banning Facebook.
