Does Facebook focus on college? Campus Social Network leave you feeling cold? You are not the only one. Advise Matt Navarra and TechCrunch reported parent company Meta is shutting down Facebook’s Campus pilot project on March 10. In a message to users, Facebook said it’s learned the “best way” to help students is through university group.
Facebook will delete Campus profiles, posts, and other data after the cut-off date. However, you can download any previous data, and Facebook is suggesting relevant school groups to help ease the transition.
The Campus pilot program was launched in September 2020 as a partial support to the student-focused Facebook initially. You need a .edu address to sign up – in theory, this allows the college crowd to mingle without relatives and other outsiders peeping in. However, it is only available from the “More” section of Facebook and does not have its own app. In other words, you might not know the Campus exists, and it’s not clear if this is a truly separate space.
The closure comes just days after Instagram said it would close its stand-alone IGTV app mid-March and reflects the long history of the Meta . brands pull the app and services remain unchanged. The meta still appears to accept risk-on content for products, and it won’t hesitate to remove those products if they fail.
