Explained: Facebook’s Community Chat feature and what it means for users
Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg shared a Facebook post to make the same announcement. The company’s official blog claims that Facebook’s Community Chat feature will help users “connect with their community in real time on topics that interest them.” Users will soon be allowed to start Community chat on both Facebook and Messenger with – text, audio and video.
The importance of Community Chat
Community Chat is intended to allow users to interact with different communities in real time on topics of interest to them in multiple formats. This experience is expected to blend seamlessly with Messenger and Facebook Groups, allowing users to connect according to their preferences.
This means that group admins won’t have to wait for people to comment on posts. The Community Chat feature will allow them to start a conversation about a topic and get an instant response. Furthermore, this feature will also allow the creator of Community Chats to organize chats into different categories. This will help other team members navigate multiple topics in a group chat on Messenger and will help them find the most interesting.
How it works
The Community Chat feature helps group admins choose from a variety of options that help their communities stay connected. Admin can start a chat for team members about a specific topic like – outing or get-together event chat, admin view-only stream chat to group-wide updates and admin-only chats to connect with admins and moderators.
Furthermore, admins can also create audio channels for team members to share live commentary or get real-time support. Once the participants are in the audio channel, they will also have the option to enable the video. However, it is important to note that the Community Chat feature will only be available to members of the group.
Considering the public nature of this feature, Facebook has also developed “a powerful set of tools” that will help admins manage both the chat and audio experiences. Group admins will be given moderation tools that will allow them to – block, mute or suspend group members and delete them or their messages.
Additionally, Admin Assistant will allow admins to set custom criteria that will automatically suspend users, delete reported messages, and will block incoming messages from insufficient authors. conditions or contain infringing content. Community Chat members can also report messages to group or Meta admins, block users or leave the chat at any time.
