MANILA, Philippines—Coach Letran Bonnie Tan on Tuesday was quick to acknowledge comments made by University of St. Benilde about wanting to take on the Knights in the NCAA Season 98 Men’s Basketball Finals.
Appreciating the Blazers, Tan said Tiu was “right” to want to contest the title with the Knights and expressed excitement ahead of their best duel kicking off Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.
“He has the right to say so. At least we are here now. We are very happy to face them in the Finals as it is their first time in a long time,” Tan said after guiding Letran to a 67-58 win over Lyceum in the Finals. Tuesday.
“Hopefully we can give them a good fight,” he added.
Letran, who is aiming for a third consecutive crown, beat Benilde in a knockout that included a Win 74-66 in the second round last November 5.
Blazers, before that, booked the first final destination in 20 years after taking out the San Beda Red Lions, 62-61.
Tan said the Knights’ biggest advantage over the Blazers will be their experience after claiming a third consecutive finals spot.
However, Tan knows Letran has no room for complacency with Benilde, the top seed in the finals, for a reason.
“One of our advantages is our experience in finals and the way it ends. That won’t change, but they’re still the best team so hopefully our veterans will be challenged.”
