Freeridge is Netflix’s newest major darling. The On my block sub branch follows another Core Four as they face the ups and downs of adolescence and possibly a deadly curse. Ciara Riley Wilson plays the lovable quirky Demi, who finds herself confronted with feelings for her longtime BFF Cam.

By the season 1 finale, Demi and Cam got to know each other and then broke up. But is this the end for them? Ciara spoke EXCLUSIVELY to hollywood life and thought Demi and Cam could end the game. She also revealed if she thinks Mariluna is really dead and her hopes are for a deeper dive into the Demi family in season 2. Read our Q&A below:

i am a very big person On my block fan. I think the four of you did a great job starting this new chapter and bringing us characters we really love like On my block do. Was Demi always the role that you auditioned for or did you choose any other role on the show?
Ciara Riley Wilson: First of all, thank you. It’s great that you’re a On my block fans and like what we did with the whole. That means a lot. I auditioned for Freeridge in May 2021, quite a while ago. It really is a potential spinoff. They haven’t written it yet, and the characters have fake sides. The characters aren’t even complete yet. There are only small descriptions. Demi was the only character I auditioned for, but she’s a different version of Demi. Demi really matured with me over the next few years before we actually sat down and filmed.

Alike On my block, Freeridge don’t be afraid to make a punch at the last second. How did you react to Mariluna’s death? Is she really even dead? We’ve never seen her dead body, so you know what that means.
Ciara Riley Wilson: Oh my gosh, yes. On my block master the cliff for sure. I’m glad we had a great juicy scene at the end of the entire series. I like to think that Mariluna isn’t dead yet. I do not know. Kind of like we’re all in the same boat as what really happened, or just kind of cross-fingered, but I think they did a really interesting job at the end. with an explosion. No pun intended.

How does it feel to work with Peggy Blow?
Ciara Riley Wilson: That is huge. She’s just an icon for sure. She was very kind to us. She definitely had a mentoring mentality and guided us throughout this entire experience. She’s so talented. i love her in On my block, and she plays a wildly different character on this show. But she still does them perfectly. I think that’s really cool. She’s so talented.

We have to talk about Demi and Cam. There were grounds for them to come together, but at the end of the season, they broke up. I don’t know if they’ve come to terms with their feelings for each other. What do you think of their relationship and its place at the end of the season?
Ciara Riley Wilson: I think Demi and Cam have a really interesting and beautiful relationship. You could tell that they’ve known each other for a long time and have been friends for the rest of their lives. I think this whole whirlwind romance is fun and exciting for them. They just have a very deeply connected relationship. They make decisions on a whim. They came together on a whim. They are as far apart as the wind, but deep down, I feel Demi and Cam are like soul mates, and they will find each other again.

After all, Demi thinks Cam is her “forever penis”. It’s always a little weird when you’ve been friends with someone your whole life and you know them on such a level of intimacy, but then you step back into territory where it’s now romantic. It’s quite difficult because you don’t know how it will turn out. It will be interesting to see how they play with that in the future.
Ciara Riley Wilson: I totally agree. Their teenagers, too. Teenagers, make decisions on a whim and don’t know what they want. When I think about Demi and Cam in the long run, maybe they’re like meeting each other again.

Home party practice is my favorite episode of the season. Cam and Demi finally opened up about what Demi said hurt Cam when she was 12. It’s a moving scene watching them cross that threshold and finally agree after Demi apologizes. What was it like shooting that important scene?
Ciara Riley Wilson: First of all, my favorite episode is house party. I just thought it was fun and well done. I love doing those scenes with Tenzing [Trainor]. I think that’s a really important moment in the story. It’s like something that holds them together. Until then, we see Demi really taking no responsibility and believing she was wrong. At this moment, she really faced him and apologized to him. I think from the character’s point of view, Demi is really emotionally intelligent and feels like she’s figured it all out. The moment she doesn’t have to face her, no, you’re wrong. You didn’t say the right thing. It really rocked her world. But when she realizes how much it has hurt Cam, she can mature and take responsibility for herself and mend that friendship and make it blossom into a relationship. I think it’s really beautiful and the filming process was fun too. It was episode 5, so we really understood everything and were really comfortable with each other. Tenzing and I had those claw hands.

I was going to ask about those claw hands.
Ciara Riley Wilson: We actually had people on for the whole day. We cannot do anything. We had someone to feed us. I’ve got a booger in my nose and there Keyla [Monterroso Mejia] Come pick it up for me. That kind of fun. Tenzing and I forged a handshake complete with the claw hand. We were delirious.

And then there’s Andre’s situation. Do you think Andre can really forgive them and be friends with them even when they get back together?
Ciara Riley Wilson: One hundred percent. I think, first of all, Zaire [Adams] So talented and funny. He really kills it in these really intense podcast scenes, which are some of the most fun and hardest to shoot because there are really important moments happening on the podcast. But I think he’s a good friend. Andre and Demi are similar in that they really understand people’s feelings, and I think he can look through everything that’s happened and know that we’re good people and he’s going to be friends with us. in a long time.

The Gloria, Ines, and Rusty Triangle could really put Demi and Cam in a dilemma. Where do you think Demi would stand in this situation? Will she definitely be Team Gloria? Or play the devil’s lawyer?
Ciara Riley Wilson: Very good question. It’s interesting because at the start of the season, I would explicitly say Demi was Team Gloria all the way. Although they had a little friction in episode 3, I think they are very, very close friends. They have a lot of love despite everything. But I really like how at the end of the season you see Demi and Ines’ friendship blossoming with the psychic and everything. I think they have a really, really beautiful friendship, which I didn’t expect and Bryana [Salaz] just read through because we’re really close in real life, and we’re like, our characters will never like each other. But in the end, I really enjoyed our characters and I loved that dynamic little friendship. I think it will be difficult for Demi to choose. I think she’s a bit like she can see this side of people’s stories, and she’s very compassionate towards people. So I feel like she’s going to be a bit of a mediator to try to work this out for them.

similar to On my block, Freeridge The play has supernatural elements. Had the whole thing with Demi and the Emilio bowl at the end of the season. Demi is very fond of her spirituality. Do you think she really believes in karmic coincidences?
Ciara Riley Wilson: I think that’s her whole world. That’s how she makes every decision in her life. She was like, what would the moon say about this? Like, right now check my horoscope to see if I should eat french fries or eat french fries for lunch. I feel like that’s her whole vibe. But what’s really cute is that I worked with Lauren [Iungerich] a lot, and Demi says all this and knows all of this, but 70% of it could be made up or she’s trying to convince people that she knows what she’s doing. I think it’s a really cute little element of her personality as she really tries her best to convince people that she’s figured it all out and that she’s researched everything about it. spiritual world. That is really lovely.

In the Thanksgiving scene, we actually see Demi taking the lead alongside her sister and Cam. Early in the season, Demi got mad at Gloria for not letting her take the lead in anything. I don’t know what the writers have told you about Demi’s family other than her sister, but I feel like it might reflect a bit of family life.
Ciara Riley Wilson: I thought about that a bit. Demi in the original character description, her parents are not really around. They are immigrants. This wasn’t really mentioned in the series but was just part of the background they told me she had to fend for herself. I think she wants that kind of responsibility, and she doesn’t get that from her group of friends. In various ways throughout the series, you see her trying to prove her abilities in curses and boxes and even Thanksgiving. It was the first time I realized what she was like, this was my chance to take the lead and really prove to my friends that I could handle it and that I was an important member of their friend group. I.

The season ends with a big twist, and there’s a lot more to explore with these characters. Is there anything you didn’t come into contact with Demi in the first season that you’d like to explore in season 2?
Ciara Riley Wilson: I will say for sure her family life. I wanted to know more about her parents and even her relationship with her sister, and how that shaped her character. I really enjoyed working with Bryana and saw that friendship between Demi and Ines. Hopefully there’s plenty of room for that to grow in future episodes.
