Ex TV Anchor Isudan Gadhvi Is AAP’s Gujarat Chief Minister Candidate
Arvind Kejriwal announced today that former TV presenter Isudan Gadhvi will be the main candidate of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for Gujarat, where the party is actively campaigning to try to overthrow the ruling BJP.
Isudan Gadhvia former journalist and TV presenter, won 73% of the vote in an AAP survey of who would be the head of Gujarat.
AAP gives a phone number, asks people to call and name it of their choice.
The party chose Bhagwant Singh Mann as its ministerial candidate in Punjab after a similar poll.
Isudan Gadhvi, 40, joined AAP last June. He was one of the highest rated TV news in Gujarat before his political debut.
“The son of a humble farmer like me has been given such a great responsibility in the political arena of Arvind Kejriwal,” Mr Gadhvi said in an emotional statement following the announcement.
“I will try to do the best I can. God has given me everything. Now I want to give my fellow Gujaratis everything they need… I will serve the people until my last breath. “
Gopal Italia, president of AAP’s Gujarat unit, also joined the race. It was Mr. Italia who contacted Mr. Gadhvi last year, initiating his entry into politics and joining the AAP. After a meeting with the head of the AAP, his decision was sealed.
“Arvind Kejriwal told me, you raise the issues of ordinary people, people like you should get involved in politics. If people like you and I don’t get into politics, then corrupt people will be free. Politics is not my desire but mine, Mr. Gadhvi said.
Gujarat will vote on December 1 and 5 and the results will be announced on December 8.
Mr. Gadhvi comes from a farming family and belongs to the Other Backward Class (OBC), which makes up 48% of Gujarat’s population.
