George was 56 years old when he welcomed his baby boy and girl into the world, and he’s been a loving, hand-in-hand dad ever since.
When asked if he ever worries about being an older father while talking to Hoda Kotb above TODAY in October 2022, he is quick to respond with his charming sense of humour. “I liked the idea of getting rid of it when my daughter started dating,” he said before offering a potential scenario. “Papa, I want you to meet [this guy]. He was a drummer in a band,” he said, pretending to be Ella. “What? I like toast,” he replied, pretending to “dislike”.
As fans know, there was a time when George thought he might never become a father. However, meeting Amal changed all that. Read on to find out how it happened and about the A-list couple’s two children.
George and Amal Clooney’s Relationship
For many years, George Clooney was one of the most sought-after men in Hollywood. He’s famous in a relationship with an actress Kelly Preston for two years in the late ’80s before marrying his first wife, Talia Balsamin 1989. They were together for four years before breaking up in 1993. In the years that followed, George dated a number of famous women, including Cameron Diaz, Renee Zellweger, Krista Allen, Linda Thompson, Elisabetta Canalisand Stacy Keibler. However, none of these gorgeous women could make him settle down.
In September 2013, George attended a fundraiser where he first met Amal through a mutual friend. Despite the 17-year age difference, the two succeeded thanks to their common interests. Right off the bat, Amal is very different from most of George’s famous exes – she’s a humanitarian lawyer, not a celebrity, after all. Immediately after the couple’s first meeting, they sparked romance rumors when they were seen having dinner together.

However, the most important moment in their relationship happened in 2017. Amal gave birth to the couple’s twin children – daughter, Ella Clooney, and son, Alexander Clooney – on June 6, 2017. News of Amal’s pregnancy broke in February 2017 episode of Conversation. Julie Chen shared the news with fans, and later explained, “My husband and I met George and Amal almost three weeks ago and they happened to say they were expecting twins. We asked, ‘Is that a secret?’ and George said: ‘No.’ But we don’t feel right to tell anyone.”
Alexander is the eldest of the twins, as he was born a few minutes before his older sister, Ella. Alexander was born at 12:54 pm, while Ella arrived two minutes later, at 12:56 pm. However, George recently revealed that Ella is the “more assertive” of the two. His mother-in-law, Baria Alamuddin, confirm that is the case. “She is only two years old and she is already the strongest girl in the family,” said Baria HI! magazine. “She’s just determined and knows what she wants.”
Of course, finding out he was having twins was quite a shock for George. “I supported ONE,” he joked in CBS this morning interview. “I was like, ‘I’m old!’ Suddenly, it’s two, and I’m really… it’s hard not to talk, and I just stand there, like, 10 minutes, just staring at this piece of paper. But I’m glad they have each other.”
George and Amal made the point of not keeping an eye on their children.
