MANILA, Philippines—Middleweight prospect Eumir Marcial will return to the ring February 11 at The Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
The undefeated Filipino will battle it out in the world title match between O’Shaquie Foster and Rey Vargas in a Showtime event.
Marcial’s opponent for round six will be announced soon.
“I look forward to focusing on my professional career and I am excited to be competing in San Antonio, which is not only a great competition town but also where my promoter, Manny Pacquiao , made ring history,” said Marcial, who postponed the celebration to set up camp in Las Vegas under the guidance of coach Jorge Capetillo.
“I learned a lot in my last three professional matches. I had a very productive training camp and I can’t wait to show what I’ve learned on February 11th. My three goals are to train hard, win and become a champion. world. And thank you to all my fans for their continued support. I fight for them and to bring honor to the Philippines,” he added.
The bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics only made his professional debut in December 2020.
Marcial currently leads 3-0 with a knockout but he has encountered adversities early in his professional career.
The 27-year-old Zamboanga City player had to overcome a nasty headbutt in the second round to defeat Steven Pichardo on points in his previous game three months ago.
In his second professional bout last April, Marcial survived three kills before stopping Isiah Hart in the fourth round.
“Eumir is a very special fighter. Unless you’re part of his inner circle, you don’t know how difficult it is to constantly transition from amateur to professional training every year,” said MP Promotions president Sean Gibbons said.
“However, Eumir did it without complaint because deep down he was driven by the need to bring honor to the Philippines and the Filipino people around the world. Manny and I are very proud of how Eumir handles the pressure. He can now focus on his professional career and I believe his true talent will be on full display on February 11 at the Alamodome.”
