Classy comments echoing the post-match respect were shown between the two in the ring, who embraced and shared some words.
After a tight opening two innings, Eubank did indeed secure a strong third, repeatedly marking Smith with heavy headbutts that Liverpudlian coach Joe McNally later admitted worried him. .
However, the battle will be turned upside down in the fourth round, when Smith cornered Eubank and unleashed a devastating combination that put ‘Next Generation’ in the frame.
Although he was on his feet again, Eubank’s legs were clearly gone and Smith wasted no time securing the finish and sending the Scousers at Manchester Arena into disarray.
Eubank has the option to activate the rematch clause under his contract and his coach, Roy Jones Jr, revealed to iFL TV that his fighter intends to do so.
“I don’t know if he’ll be right back with it but I know he wants it.”
As for Smith, he has stated he is ready to fight Jr again, but on his terms. Now, side ‘A’, the terms for Smith vs Eubank 2 will likely be vastly different from their first encounter, if a second meeting is signed.
