Errol Spence vs. Yordenis Ugas on April 16 at AT&T Stadium, Texas

Via Jack Tiernan: Errol Spence Jr officially announced his united fight against Yordenis Ugas on April 16 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Spence (27-0, 21 KOs) will take the IBF & WBC weightlifting title as he faces 147-lb WBA champion Ugas (27-4, 12 KOs) in a two-month three-belt unification match from now on in Arlington, Texas.

With time running out, it became clear that the match between Spence vs. Ugas needs to be published so that it has enough time to be marketed to the boxing public.

Spence, 31, will be out for 16 months from his last game against Danny Garcia in December 2020.

Errol was supposed to be back in the ring last August against Manny Pacquiao, but he injured his retina while participating in that fight.

This is a risky combination for Spence as he is about to have eye surgery for a retinal tear and has to be out of work for a long time. During the last three years, Spence was involved in a terrible car accident and severely injured his eye.

There are many boxing fans who question Spence’s wisdom to jump straight into a potentially dangerous fight against Ugas. We’ll see if Spence makes the correct decision on April 16.

Lucky Cuban talent Ugas got in on the two-week announcement and beat Pacquiao last August. After the fight, Pacquiao, 42, retired.

Now, Ugas will look to beat Spence, but not send him into retirement as he did with Pacquiao.

Given the money 35-year-old Ugas will get to fight Spence, he can expect them to be back in the rematch no matter how their fight plays out on April 16.

This was not a fight the boxing public wanted to see, as they pushed Spence against Terence Crawford. That match is likely to come later this year if Spence beats Ugas, but it will be for negotiations.

Assuming Spence beat Ugas, he would own three titles compared to Crawford. With three belts and a bigger PPV draw, it will be difficult for Crawford to justify that he deserves the 50-50 scoreline.

That’s why we probably won’t get a chance to see Spence and Crawford play this year.
