Via Matt Lieberman: Errol Spence Jr said today he plans to move up to 154 to challenge for world titles in that division after he completes a 147 lb unification with WBA champion Yordenis Ugas and WBO champion Terence Crawford.
As for a potential future bout against Canelo Alvarez, Spence sees six or seven boxers chasing the Mexican star. Who knows when Canelo will end up fighting all of them?
147-lb IBF/WBC champion Errol (27-0.21 KOs) says he doesn’t see a real need to stay at 147 to defend his undisputed title against phenom Jaron’ Boots ‘ Ennis young after he collected his last two belts at this year’s welding weights.
Spence and Ugas (27-4, 12 KOs) will meet on April 16 on Showtime PPV at AT&&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. This will be Spence’s first fight since suffering a retinal tear last year while training for a match against Manny Pacquiao.

“I’m pretty confident that I can go 12 laps easily because I’ve done 12 laps and it doesn’t tire me at all.
Spence doesn’t care about the Ennis war
“He’s definitely talented, but right now, I’m not looking at him,” Spence said when asked about his thoughts on Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis potentially becoming his IBF if he beat Custio Clayton in their title elimination.
“I really have nothing to gain. Ugas has the belt and Terence Crawford has the belt. Those were big, huge battles for me. He is [Ennis] is an amazing talent. Hopefully he’ll be on top soon.
“It was like me when I was up. He’s super talented and super good. I wish him the best in the future.
“Definitely possible,” Spence said when asked if a fight between him and Terence Crawford could happen this year.
“It’s not even something I’m worried about,” Spence said when asked about his thoughts on the fight against Canelo Alvarez. “He’s at the age of 175 and there were six or seven pursuers after him. I’m not really worried about that fight. If that happens, it will happen.
“I wanted to give a great one-sided performance and a great performance to everyone as they were saying, ‘He’s back.’ I feel like surgery has come a long way since the ’60s and ’70s,” said Spence when asked if he was worried about his repaired eyes.
“Ray Leonard went through that surgery and he was the worst for me, and he came back and fought. That was 30 or 40 years ago. So I feel like I’m in a great state. I have a great surgeon and everything has cleared up. All my tests have been cleared, and everything is fine.
“I can’t accept that because I make more than 99% of the people in the universe, so I can’t accept that,” Errol said when asked if he regrets it. for missing a big payday against Manny Pacquiao last August due to an eye injury.
“Everything happens for a reason, and you have to keep going and keep winning. There will be more paydays in the future,” said Spence.
