Errol Spence Jr Vs. Keith Thurman rumored for December 17
Via Chris Williams: Errol Spence Jr vs. Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman is rumored to take place on December 17.
While that might seem like a rush for such a big match, as Nestor Gibbs pointed out, a lengthy promotion for the multi-talker Thurman match (30-1, 22 KOs) and the IBF/WBA/WBC welterweight champion Spence (28 -0.22 KOs) is unnecessary.
The former 147 lb WBA/WBC champion Thurman will gain massive interest in Spence fights overnight with his ability to market his fights with his gab giveaway.
Spence against Thurman was ordered by the World Boxing Council at the recent WBC conference two weeks ago. It’s a fight Spence has to go into if he wants to keep his 147 lb WBC belt.
Previously, Crawford bailed out in talks with Spence after being offered a reported eight-figure salary by BLK Prime for him to defend against competitor David Avanesyan on December 10.
Crawford and BLK Prime better hope Spence-Thurman doesn’t go down on December 17 because there’s no way they can compete with that.
“Have December dating rumors for this war between Errol Spence and Keith Thurman,” said Nestor Gibbs at Tha Boxingvoice. “Do you think we got a hasty notice? I hope not.
“We saw Terence Crawford and David Avanesyan fighting on December 10, but there are rumors about December 17 on PBC. How much time does that give us? [five weeks]. Exactly.”
It doesn’t matter if Spence-Thurman is scheduled a week after the Crawford-Avanesyan match because it’s a fight that’s going to be huge. It’s like Floyd Mayweather Jr versus Manny Pacquiao.
That battle was mostly ad-free, but it broke PPV records, bringing in over 2 million purchases.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Spence fought Thurman one million + buy sign. It won’t hit the 2M market on PPV because there are too many illegal streams and other ways for boxing fans to breach fights.
“Have we seen big fights like this announced within five weeks? I don’t know if you will get any of that [two-city press tour for Spence vs. Thurman] for this, and I don’t know that you need any of that for this,” Gibbs said.
“It’s Keith Thurman, and he is one of the best speakers.”
