Via Chris Williams: Uniformweight champion Errol Spence Jr and WBO belt holder Terence Crawford are said to have agreed terms for a November 19 grand slam in Las Vegas.
Crawford agreed to terms from Spence’s advisor Al Haymon and would receive a split rather than the 50-50 he wanted.
There is a bilateral rematch clause, which means we will see a second fight between the two champions. A rematch seems pointless if there’s an early knockout, as the boxing public won’t be eager to watch a second bout if it’s all but wiped out in some way.
ESPN is reporting on the Spence vs. Crawford was agreed. With that said, none of the boxers signed off on the agreement, as it is being examined by their attorneys.
This is the match the boxing world has been so eager to see, and it’s finally here.
The 34-year-old Crawford is likely to be a favorite with bookmakers, although has faced major opposition since moving up to 147th in 2018.
Boxing fans will get a chance to see how Crawford takes on his first elite-level opponent at 147th and essentially his entire career. So far, the only real name on Crawford’s résumé is keeper Shawn Porter, with whom he stopped in the 10th round last October.
“Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford agreed to all the important terms for a war for the undisputed welterweight championship, an event targeted for November 19 in Las Vegas,” said ESPN.
With the fight taking place in November, there wasn’t much time left for Spence and Crawford to prepare.
For their sake, you can only hope that they were trained for the fight because otherwise it would have been a rush camp. Chris Williams was able to hear the excuses.
Spence and Crawford will eventually increase to 154 once they finish their two matches.
“The agreement was not signed because lawyers for the parties cleaned up the legal language in the agreement, according to the source. Crawford has agreed to all proposed financial terms from PBC founder Al Haymon, including the short-term end of the revenue split,” said ESPN.
“The package includes a bilateral rematch clause that the losing side will have the right to enforce, according to the source. If the rematch clause is activated, the winner will earn most of the revenue for the second leg.
