England’s Georgia Hall lies two shots from the lead after the opening round of the Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open.

Hall hit seven birdies and one bogey in her opening six-hole under 66 at Dundonald Links, where South Korea’s Hye Jin Choi covered her last five holes of the bottom five in the 64th open.

“Very happy with how I played today,” said Hall, the 2018 British Open women’s champion.

“Things went pretty well. I didn’t really miss a shot and scored some good putts.

“I’m really happy and would love to play links again. Anytime in the morning you know you’ll probably have the easiest conditions and I’ve tried to capitalize on that.”

The afternoon’s starters had to deal with a downpour that left the pitch covered with water, but Hall’s partner at the Solheim Cup, Celine Boutier and former world number one Lydia Ko weathered the conditions to shot 65 and joined the American Lilia Vu in second place.

England’s Bronte Rules opened 68 cards, faced by defending champion Ryan O’Toole, with world number one Jin Young Ko coming in with two under 70.
