England vs Spain Player Rating: Georgia Stanway stars with stunning win after impressive display in midfield | Football news

After England reached the semi-finals of Euro 2022 with a dramatic victory in extra time against Spain at the Amex Stadium, how did Sarina Wiegman’s Sarina Wiegman lions return to the arena?

Mary Earps – 7

Dealt was confident but comfortable in front of Spain’s attacking play and left no chance from Esther Gonzalez’s goal. Athenea del Castillo was nearly caught from an unintentional lob before he recovered to clear the deck. Often under pressure in front of the Spanish attack but generally handled it comfortably.

Lucy dong – 6

Try to go down the right wing, as always. Didn’t associate with Beth Mead or Lauren Hemp as much as she has in the past, and found life particularly tough before the first half against Mariona Caldentey. Improved in the second half, and as England looked for the equalizer their equalizer became increasingly engaged and productive, in the final third.

Millie Bright – 7

Strong in the challenge when called upon, but without her typical long range passes, we’ve seen her put to good use in this tournament. Only partially tested until Spain threw the sink into England’s net in extra time, and stood firm, stopping an attempt by Sarriegi in particular, to see them pass.

Leah Williamson – 6 years old

Got a little catch by Gonzalez for the opener, although there was a lot of work to do when Rachel Daly was beaten. Like Bright, her long pass is rarely seen and the radar around her backline is also a bit nervous. Stand firmly by Bright’s side to prevent Earps from getting into more trouble, especially in extra time.

Rachel Daly – 5

Dealt well with Marta Cardona before half-time, leading to her being dropped at half-time – but Del Castillo fell very easily in front of Gonzalez’s goal. Continue to struggle with the substitute throughout the second period before she is taken off the field.

Keira Walsh – 7

Nowhere was she as influential as she could have been over the Lionesses for most of the game and bound by the Spanish midfield – but as England drew momentum from the equalizer draw by Ella Toone, started pulling strings after the match started. Provide a quality defensive display along with Georgia Stanway.

Georgia Stanway – 8

A typical defiant performance and defensive sense to prevent a talented trio of Spain’s midfielders from taking control as they have been allowed in other games. And that goal… if there’s ever been a time to hit such a winner, it’s tonight.

Fran Kirby – 6

The Spanish midfield didn’t have the space or time to operate in the spaces she liked, and was substituted shortly after completing just 10 passes.

Beth Mead – 5

Unusually effective in the link phase with Bronze and shifted to the left before halftime. Still struggling to produce and unsurprisingly being Wiegman’s first replacement.

Ellen White – 6

Missed an early header from a beautiful Mead free kick. The fighting is tough and for the short time it looks as if she could have scored the opener before halftime, but having Mead or Hemp around her in the box to feed is often isolated and no that support is as victim of circumstance as anything that happens. Turn off.

Lauren Hemp – 6

There was plenty of energy, but faced a tough night against Manchester United’s Ona Batlle. Much is poor from parts, of which there are quite a few. Responding to Wiegman’s belief in keeping her with the cross led to the equalizer, in an unusually unusual performance.

Alternative products

Chloe Kelly (for Mead, 58 years old) – 6

Finding life almost as tough as Hemp and Mead take on Batlle, but still more present on the right flank than those who have gone before her.

Alessia Russo (for Caucasian, 58 years old) – 7

The little extra movement that was missing in the final third was simply her style of play, and helped Toone equalize with a deft header.

Ella Toone (for Kirby, 64 years old) – 7

Woman of the moment – and what moment. Just in time, in the right place to send the game into extra time with a chilling finish that knocked Daly down with England’s first shot on target of the game.

Alex Greenwood (for Daly, 82 years old) – 6

With Daly’s night getting worse, creating a steady influence at left-back when needed. The question of whether she gets to develop her abilities comes from the set plays, but she never really shows them.

Jill Scott (for Walsh, 116) – n / a

Nikita Parris (for hemp, 116) n / a
