Energy prices in Europe soar after Russia cuts gas flows

Russia continues to promise to cut the flow of natural gas to Europe, causing a rise in fuel and electricity prices that, if sustained, will affect the region’s economy.
Moscow is using gas flows as an economic weapon to sow division and instability among Ukraine’s Western allies. Europe, and Germany in particular, for many years relied on gas produced in western Siberia to generate electricity, fire out factories and heat homes.
