How long is the Pentiment?
Opinion is divided into three acts on about 15-20 hours of the game. Even though it’s an RPG, the world is structured in such a way that you can’t make everything available to you on any given day in the game. This means you’ll necessarily miss out on some stuff – part murder mystery, so not all clues are traceable. It also means that multiple plays can play out differently, both between players or even if you just reload a save and go down a new path.
Opinion’s day-night cycle essentially limits your actions, so choosing to follow a lead will sometimes eliminate or temporarily block other opportunities. It’s pretty much like Night in the Woods in that way, if you know that reference. As a makeshift private detective journey artist, Andreas Malers can’t be in two places at once, so while it’s not the kind of RPG you’ll skip the important path for five hours when you minimize your magic stats, some branches on this complicated story tree will simply take longer to descend, hence a few hours.
Interestingly, the game uses a no-wrong answer approach to its investigative gameplay. Maler can go after any lead he wants, make accusations, and draw conclusions that make the most sense to the player who happens to be controlling him. While the lack of definitive answers was a difficult point for our reviewers, as mentioned in Rate comments, Obsidian will protect it as a feature, not a bug.
