Emmanuel Macron As France Reaches World Cup Quarter-Finals


France will face England in the quarter-finals on December 11 (File).

France have advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup after beating Poland 3-1 in a Round of 16 match in Qatar on Sunday. As fans cheered, French President Emmanuel Macron celebrated France’s victory with a photo of strikers Kylian Mbappe and Olivier Giroud, both on the scoresheet against Poland. “En quarts!” wrote President meant in the quarterfinals.

Kylian Mbappe scored twice in the match and brought his total number of goals at the FIFA World Cup to eight. He also leads the ranking of the Golden Boot at the 2022 World Cup with five goals.

“Oh la la. Kylian Mbappe has scored his 4th World Cup goal and he is now the tournament’s top scorer,” wrote former England striker and football pundit Gary Lineker on Twitter. For the record, Lineker won the Golden Boot at the 1986 World Cup held in Mexico.

Bixente Lizarazu, the former France defender who won the 1998 World Cup, highlighted the deadly attacking partnership of Kylian Mbappe and France’s Olivier Giroud.

Olivier Giroud writes historical script on Monday by scored the 52nd goal for France national football team, beating Thierry Henry’s record. He gave his team a lead over Poland by scoring a goal just before half-time. This is his 117th appearance for his country.
“Olivier has always been an important player. Even when four years ago with the title, he didn’t score – he was always important,” said France coach Didier Deschamps.
France will face England in the quarter-finals on December 11, Sunday.
He advanced to the quarter-finals after beating Senegal 3-0 on Monday. He started scoring with a 38th minute goal from midfielder Jordan Henderson. Striker Harry Kane doubled the lead just before the break and Bukayo Saka scored in the 57th minute to seal a lead for the Three Lions.
