Embiid, Giannis and Jokic named NBA MVP finalists

NEWYORK – The reigning NBA Best Player Nikola Jokic of Denver, Joel Embiid of Philadelphia and Giannis Antetokounmpo of the defending champion Milwaukee were named NBA MVP 2021-22 finalists by the league on Sunday.

The global superstar trio have their clubs vying for the NBA crown in the knockout stages, which begin this weekend.

Cameroon star Embiid sparked the 76ers in their opening win over Toronto while Serbian Jokic led the Nuggets in their opening loss to Golden State and Greek star Antetokounmpo, 2019 and 2020 MVP, led Milwaukee against Chicago in opening round.

The three finalists have been named for six annual awards based on results from a global media panel, with winners to be announced during the NBA knockouts.

NBA Coach of the Year finalists include Taylor Jenkins of Memphis, Erik Spoelstra of top seed Miami Eastern Conference and Monty Williams of top seed West Conference and NBA top Phoenix Suns Generally speaking.

Finalists for the NBA’s best defensive players include Utah’s Rudy Gobert, an award-winning French center in 2018, 2019 and 2021, Boston’s Marcus Smart and Phoenix’s Mikal Bridge.

Memphis star guard Ja Morant was among the finalists for the NBA’s Most Improved Player award, along with Cleveland’s Darius Garland and San Antonio’s Dejounte Murray.

Finalists for the NBA’s sixth Man of the Year award, which goes to the top reserve player, include Miami’s Tyler Herro, Phoenix’s Cam Johnson and Cleveland’s Kevin Love.

Rookie of the Year finalists include Toronto’s Scottie Barnes, Detroit’s Cade Cunningham and Cleveland’s Evan Mobley.
