Elon Musk says he would accept a job in Trump’s cabinet
The previously tense relationship between Elon Musk and Donald Trump has been mended to the point where Tesla The CEO said Monday he is open to joining Trump’s cabinet if the Republican presidential candidate is elected in November.
Trump raised the idea of Musk serving in his cabinet on Monday in a Interview with ReutersAsked if he would consider appointing Musk to a cabinet position or an advisory role, Trump replied, “He’s a very smart guy. I certainly would, if he did, I certainly would. He’s a great guy.”
Musk replied on X within hours, post“I am ready to serve.” Musk’s sincerity in that statement, however, was undermined by the image he attached to it—an AI-generated photo of him at a podium labeled “Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).” (Musk has long been a supporter of the meme cryptocurrency Dogecoin.)
musk support Trump for president after the candidate survived an assassination attempt and recently interviewed him on the social media platform. There report that Musk had pledged $45 million a month to a pro-Trump super PAC, but Musk then refuse to fulfill that commitment.
The possibility of Musk becoming a cabinet member or adviser is a significant shift in thinking from Musk and Trump’s views just two years ago.
In July 2022, Trump calls Musk a “bullshit artist”” after Musk said he was leaning toward voting for Ron DeSantis. Musk shoot back about X that “it’s time for Trump to hang up his hat and ride off into the sunset,” then add“Trump will be 82 at the end of his term, too old to be the chief executive of any agency, let alone the United States.”
Musk has also previously criticized Trump, calling him a “bull in a china shop.”
