Elon Musk calls Elton John a hoax

Elton John performed one of the most subversive acts performed by any rocker… ever.

John performing at the wedding of radio titan Rush Limbaugh and his bride, Kathryn Rogers, in 2010. John, who is gay and married to David Furnish, seems an unlikely choice to entertain the conservative firecracker.

That’s an understatement.

The show brings lots of heat when the Grammy Award winner. For example, gay journalist Michael Musto called him a “slut”. The pop icon must have known the reaction was coming, but he still took the gig (and reportedly shared his dues with a favorite AIDS charity, according to People magazine).

John has a personal connection to Limbaugh, someone who is forged away from their respective microphones. The decision went deeper than that.

“Rocket Man” also knows that through debate and dialogue, people can understand each other better.

That’s why John’s actions this week seem unusual.

John publicly abandoned Twitter, blaming the platform’s unwillingness to censor so-called “misinformation”.

John is simply reiterating the corrupt media’s line of attack against Elon Musk, the new Twitter owner who has dramatically changed the way the Big Tech giants operate.

The media has raged against Musk in recent days as he dismantled the company’s scanning units dedicated to censorship and one-way fact-checking. The same outlets say nothing as Twitter allows left-wing disinformation to thrive on the site for years, from Hillary Clinton’s repeated refusal to vote to rulings on COVID-19 not based on hard science.

No Big Tech platform is perfect, but few have spoken out about “misinformation” as it flourished in the years before Musk.

Additionally, we’ve seen evidence of Twitter’s willingness to crush both dissident and valuable information through the first two seasons of “The Twitter Files.”

The old Twitter regime concealed potentially damaging information for Democrats, like the Hunter Biden laptop scandal, while letting a flood of Fake News flood the platform with little retribution. . Freelance stars can share misinformation to their heart’s content, while Tweet hating the Republican Party metrics, and know that they won’t face any consequences.

However, conservative actor James Wood has faced Twitter censors for his mention of the Hunter Biden scandal.

More recently, we learned how Twitter banned conservative-minded leaders like Dan Bongino and Charlie Kirk, turning the digital town hall into an MSNBC-like arena.

You might think that an artist of John’s caliber might not be comfortable with that situation. Instead, he leaves the platform under questionable circumstances.

Musk may have been mad at John for ditching Twitter. He may have called out his name or locked his existing account in a fit of rage.

Instead, Musk took a page from John’s play.

A seasoned and wise artist like John should know better than to promote censorship and strict content protections. Art requires creative freedom to bloom, as does cultural conversations about the most challenging topics of the day.

Here’s a bet John has no real answer for Musk. His team probably thought this was a good signal to share at the time.

Musk’s kind but targeted response shows the folly of critics of “misinformation.”
