Elon Musk asks Tesla workers to return to the office or leave the company, according to leaked memo | Science & Technology News

Elon Musk has asked Tesla employees to return to the office or leave the company, according to a leaked memo.

“Anyone who wants to work remotely must be in the office for at least (and I mean minimum) 40 hours per week or depart Tesla,“The CEO said in a message to employees, which was spread on social networks.

While the authenticity of the memo has yet to be verified and the electric car maker has yet to issue an official response to questions about it, Musk responded to a Twitter user asking him for “any additional comments for people who think going to work is an archaic concept?”

“They should pretend to work somewhere else,” replied the billionaire tycoon.

Musk will “review and approve” any cases where workers are unable to meet the minimum, according to the memo.

Tesla is involved in a number of companies demanding the return of offices to employees.

While some major employers have adopted permanent voluntary work-from-home policies, others including Alphabet’s Google are choosing to promote face-to-face interaction between co-workers.

Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal tweeted in March that the social media company’s offices would reopen but employees could still work from home if they wanted to.

“Wherever you feel most productive and creative is where you’ll work, and that includes working full-time from home,” he says.

It comes after Musk launched an attempt in April to make Twitter private in a $44 billion (£35 billion) deal.
