Eliud Kipchoge breaks his own marathon world record in Berlin
Olympic doubles champion Eliud Kipchoge broke his own men’s marathon world record at Sunday’s race in Berlin.
Before that, he was far ahead of compatriot Dennis Kimetto’s 2014 record of 2:02.57 of 2:02.57 a minute 20 seconds in Berlin.
Kipchoge already knock his chance of a world record under construction.
On an overcast day in Berlin, Kipchoge, who has now won 15 of his 17 career marathons, was looking half way to becoming the first runner to officially cross the two-hour mark.
In Vienna in 2019, he became the first athlete to run 26.2 miles in under two hours.
However, it was not recognized as an official marathon world record because it was not contested and he used a rotating fleet of pacemakers.
Than to follow.
