Election results in Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland not related to Bharat Jodo Yatra’s success, says Congress | Meghalaya Election News

NEW DELHI: The Conference reiterated that the results of the upcoming parliamentary elections in the three northeastern states of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland has nothing to do with the party that just ended Bharat Jodo Yatra (BJY).
Secretary General of the National Assembly in charge of communications Jairam Ramesh explicitly said that Bharat Jodo Yatra had nothing to do with the elections.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, he said, “It’s just so coincidental that these three state elections are happening right now.”
He was speaking in Shillong after the announcement of the party’s election manifesto for Meghalaya going to the polls on February 27 with Nagaland. Tripura faces elections on February 16. The counting of votes for all three elections will be done on March 2. These three states are the first to go to the polls after the BJY ends on January 30th.
When asked if the mission in these three states was a true reflection of Bharat Jodo Yatra’s success, Ramesh said the barefoot march was not related to the elections held recently in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat. .
MP Rajya Sabha said, “I do not believe Bharat Jodo Yatra is responsible for our victory in Himachal Pradesh. I even less believe that Bharat Jodo Yatra is responsible for our very disappointing performance in Gujarat. Because from Day One we were told that Bharat Jodo Yatra is an ideological yatra. It is not an electoral yatra. It is a political yatra but has nothing to do with elections. That’s why we started the ‘Haath se Haath Jodo’ campaign after Bharat Jodo Yatra.”
Ramesh explains that Bharat Jodo Yatra is to deal with the ideology of Congress as well as to deal with and against the ideology of the BJP and RSS. “The three ideologies that we are opposing are economic inequality, social polarization and political dictatorship,” he said.
The head of parliament’s communications agency stated that he would not relate the outcome – favorable or otherwise – to the 4,000 km yatra from Kanyakumari to Srinagar due to Rahul Gandhi.
“So if we do well, I will not take any credit for Bharat Jodo Yatra, let me assure you. If we don’t do well, I’m sure all of you will say Bharat Jodo Yatra ka kya faayda? Is se koi faayda nahin hua. (What is the use of Bharat Jodo Yatra. There is no use.) That would also be a wrong view. The results of Bharat Jodo Yatra have to be seen in a 5 year, 10 year perspective. It was a long battle of ideas. That’s why we are doing Bharat Jodo Yatra. It’s not an event,” he said.
Claiming that Bharat Jodo Yatra had been “very successful”, Ramesh revealed the group’s plan for a west-to-east march. “We are currently thinking of a west to east yatra, the details of which are still being discussed. This is a yatra from south to north. A similar yatra from west to east is being contemplated, because we believe that India’s biggest threat comes from the prime minister’s policies from the BJP or RSS which divides Indian society and does not unite Indian society,” he said.
Opinions differ on BJY and Himachal’s voting results
However, there seems to be a difference of opinion regarding Bharat Jodo Yatra and its relation to elections. The results of Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat were announced on December 8. While the Congress defeated the BJP in Himachal Pradesh, the BJP won a historic victory in Gujarat.
What Ramesh said about the yatra’s relationship with the Himachal Pradesh election results contrasts with the views of Parliamentarian Rajya Sabha in charge of elections in the hilly state Rajeev Shukla. The second has claimed that the party won the state thanks to the yatra.
Yatra passed through Himachal Pradesh much after the results were announced. It did not go to Gujarat.
Parliamentary Declaration for Meghalaya
Declaring the manifesto, Ramesh said it had 14 big promises. “Every year, we will present a report to the people of Meghalaya, giving a report card on the performance of each of the promises we have made.”
The party has made 5 major commitments including women’s empowerment by giving Rs 3,000 to every single mother BPL because 41% of women are single; going to each household; Meghalaya has no power cuts and Meghalaya has no corruption.
Rajya Sabha MP said the upcoming Meghalaya election is a turning point for the party. “The Congress Party is fighting against four clouds – the cloud of corruption, the cloud of unemployment, the cloud of Meghalaya’s identity destruction and finally the cloud of unhealthy alliances between BJP, NPP, UDP and TMC. They all claim to be fighting for independence. But take my word for it – at the first chance, they’ll go to bed together,” he alleged.
