EICMA 2022: 2023 Piaggio, Aprilia, MotoGuzzi Vespa and electric scooters introduced
Aprilia Electrica is the company’s new electric motorcycle concept with a rather special design.
The Piaggio Group displayed a range of two-wheeler models for 2023 at EICMA 2022 under the Aprilia, Moto Guzzi and Vespa brands. Two of these products are electrical. Here is a list of the vehicles that were on display.
Aprilia Electrica
Aprilia previewed her concept electric motorcycle with a rather weird design with a high saddle and minimalist body. One can also see a parallel chassis with the battery and motor housed inside. The frame itself is suspended by USD fork and monoshock and the bike sits on what appears to be a pair of 17-inch wheels that come with Pirelli tires.
Aprilia has yet to reveal any battery or motor specs; but on the surface, this bike looks more like a mass market than a weird EV.
Aprilia RS 660 Extrema
The RS 660 Extrema is the lightest version of this bike, achieved by the addition of some carbon fiber parts. Standard equipment includes a new and lighter street-legal exhaust system. Also contributing to the overall weight reduction are the new front fender and the underbody fender with an all-new design, both made of high-quality carbon. The result is a bike that weighs 166kg while generating 100hp.
In addition to the standard electronics on the RS 660 (traction control, cornering ABS, wheel control), the RS 660 Extrema also has software to flip the gearshift to a GP-style configuration.
Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello
The V100 Mandello opens a whole new chapter in the history of Moto Guzzi. This is the first Moto Guzzi to feature a new ‘compact displacement’ engine, with refined specifications. V100 Mandello for 115 horsepower at 8,700 rpm and maximum torque of 105Nm at 6,750 rpm. Under the body is a compact and lightweight chassis, suspended by USD forks and shock absorbers. And since the bike is designed for touring, its sitting position is comfortable with a spacious saddle.
The electronics package includes a six-axis IMU for sensitive traction control and ABS. Four driving modes are available – Touring, Sport, Rain and Road. Each of these manages three different engine maps, four levels of traction control, three levels of engine braking as well as the settings of the Ohlins Smart EC 2.0 semi-active suspension.
Moto Guzzi V7 Stone Special Edition
The classic V7, one of the best-selling Moto Guzzis, is now available in a Special Edition. It comes in a distinctive Shining Black colorway, with contrasting graphics and red tank details. Moto Guzzi V7 Stone Special Edition is equipped with an engine of 66.5 horsepower, 75Nm.
Moto Guzzi V9 Bobber special edition
This Moto Guzzi V9 Bobber Special Edition looks quite special with its unique paintwork. The company calls this a special workshop with a two-tone black-gray tone. Complementing the black bodywork is a matte black finish on the engine that contrasts with Moto Guzzi branding on the cylinder heads. Talking about the engine, the 853cc engine makes 65hp and 73Nm. Another special feature on the car is the exhaust pipe that slides on the street.
2023 Piaggio 1 tram
Piaggio has launched the 2023 version of the electric scooter model 1 and it offers more performance than the previous version. Called the Piaggio 1 Active, it has a peak power of 3kW, which is enough to propel it to a top speed of 60 km/h and as such should be enough for the urban jungle. The battery range is also quite good at 85km and added to the convenience is that it can be removed and charged at home or at the office. Other features on the scooter include a fully LED lighting system and a digital colorimeter. The company claims that this is the only e-scooter in its segment with a trunk large enough to hold a full-face helmet.
New Vespa GTS
The GTS’ ‘neck brace’ on the front apron is new, as are the metal body contours, and the entire lighting system is now completely LED. The tail section is also new, including side panels, license plate frames and new shapes for the lighting system. The mirror located on the handlebar is wider and more convenient.
In terms of comfort, the new Vespa GTS has a revised front suspension with better shock absorption. Traction control and ABS are standard equipment. In all, there are four versions in the range and 14 colors on offer.
Vespa GTV and Primavera Color Vibe
Built on the basis of the Vespa GTS, the Vespa GTV is reborn with a completely new look and features a number of design elements reminiscent of the original Vespa, such as the headlights on the front fender. The Vespa Primavera Color Vibe, on the other hand, has a distinctive two-tone color scheme with blue wheels for added contrast.
On the list of Vespas is the 946 10° Anniversario celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Vespa 946 in a special blue color.
