Eddie Hearn’s Verdict on Fury-Chisora and Whether Derek Should Retire

Eddie Hearn watched on to watch Tyson Fury defend the WBC heavyweight belt against Derek Chisora at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but believes the action is ‘hard to watch’.
Hearn and Chisora have been involved in the sport for a long time, with most of ‘Del Boy’s recent matches taking place under the Chamber banner. This one doesn’t, but that doesn’t stop the promoter from tuning in.
Talking to IFL television, The first Hearn pointed out a problem with the narrative of the event – namely the word inconsistency Angerpromoter and man behind the war, Frank Warren.
“You know, it’s hard to watch. Look, Del is a diamond. He will never stop trying. I don’t like to point out what’s been said in the past because it seems like I’ve got it all figured out anyway, but Frank Warren said like two years ago ‘Derek Chisora should retire, it’s a shame when they let him fight’ and then someone mentioned the Fury-Chisora battle and he said ‘oh, that was a joke’ and then, two years later, pushed the fight.
He echoed the thoughts of many fans that, at some point, the match made viewers uncomfortable.
“The problem with boxing is that in that fight, people were watching saying ‘you have to stop this fight’ but nobody really stopped it. Do you know what I mean?
“Very difficult, because Don Charles knows Derek Chisora better than anyone. Derek Chisora is never going to give up. Never. And I’m sure Don Charles knows that. You need an introduction, and I think Victor Loughlin made a good jab – it should have been done three or four rounds earlier. And listen, Tyson Fury actually supports him a bit too.”
“In a situation like this, Derek could have given Tyson Fury the best shot he had in the tank and it wouldn’t have hurt him at the time, and he’s losing every round. fight. So if you can’t win the war…”
Finally, Hearn replies whether he thinks it’s time for the heavyweight warhorse, Chisora, to call it a boxing day – in the ring at least.
“I think so. It’s hard because when you beat Pulev – Pulev was a top 15, Chisora beat him, so he didn’t want to retire. But then he got paid some money. well against Fury and Fury is clearly a notch above him.He can turn around and fight a Zhang [Zhilei]or he can fight a [Filip] Hrgovic… Fabi Wardley. However, he has also made a huge amount of money over the past few years. We all love him, and I think now is a great time to hang them.”
While Chisora’s future is uncertain, Fury now looks set to head for an undisputed fight with another heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk, in early 2023.
