Via Dan Ambrose: Eddie Hearn said Canelo Alvarez and his manager Eddy Reynoso are expected to decide this week on the fight deal he has for them to take on Dmitry Bivol and Gennady Golovkin. Boxing Matchroom promoter Hearn says they are in a “reasonable location“To get Canelo to agree to a fight agreement between the two of you.
Hearn says he’s made no secret of the money offer given to Canelo from PBC to face Jermall Charo and David Benavidez in his next two games. That deal is rumored to be worth $100 million, which is clearly the huge sum being offered to Canelo.
It will be difficult for Canelo (57-1-2, 39 KOs) against Charlo and Benavidez, as the Mexicans have not faced anyone of such a high level since their rematch with Golovkin in 2018.
Hearn expects a decision this week
Eddie Hearn told the DAZN Boxing Show on a two-match deal for Canelo Alvarez against Bivol in May and Golovkin in September.
“I feel it is a great opportunity for him [Cnelo]and for the outside, we want to welcome him back to Matchroom and DAZN. We are doing everything we can to end that.
“I think this week is 10 weeks away from the proposed fight week in Vegas, so we are getting close to a decisive moment. I like to think we’re in a reasonable position and we’ll see what happens over the next few days.
“I think it’s likely he’ll make up his mind this week,“Hearn talked about Canelo. “About the PBC offer, I don’t know anything about that. I haven’t talked to Saul about it yet. I’m sure he has received many offers from many platforms and advertisers.
“Eddie and Saul wanted to put it on their own on social media to say nothing was signed, which it didn’t, even when we said. So we’re working through all the options, dates and matches. Like I said, hopefully we’ll get picked,” Hearn said.
Money is not an object for Canelo
“We don’t know what’s true about the numbers,Hearn said when asked if it was true that Canelo was offered $100 million by PBC for their fight. “As I’ve always said about Saul and Eddy, it’s not exactly money decisions. Those are estate decisions.
“Those are decisions related to history. That’s what attracts them. I would say that the reported amount was exited. That’s a lot more money than that. That’s more money from us.
“I think that’s something Eddy and Saul looked at. If you’re going to report something, at least give the right numbers,” says Hearn.
What Hearn did not say is that although the amount offered from PBC is huge, the chances of Canelo losing to Charlo or Benavidez will be very high.
Once Canelo loses to one or both of those boxers, it can be difficult for him to continue to receive that payoff in the future.
So, it makes perfect sense for Canelo to reject PBC’s two-fight deal as the chances of him losing those fighters would be very high compared to Hearn’s double deal when Alvarez faced 40-year-old Bivol and Golovkin.
With the 4 years Canelo waited before showing interest in playing Golovkin since their last match in 2018, Saul will have a good chance of beating GGG right now without a doubt. .
“Obviously, the financial side is always important to a boxer, but it has to be something that excites Saul,” says Hearn. “He’s the undisputed world champion, he’s number 1 by the pound.
“It’s about which fights excite him and Eddy Reynoso. I think the money will always be at record levels with Canelo Alvarez,” Hearn said.
