Eddie Hearn Targets Maurice Hooker for Conor Benn’s Next Battle

Via Jack Tiernan: Eddie Hearn Says He Wants Maurice ‘Mighty Mo’ Hooker is the next opponent for welterweight/prospect contender Conor Benn in April in London, England.

Things are looking desperate as Hearn is looking for the ideal, older former world champion to take on Benn.

It’s not clear what Hearn’s next move will be if he arrives empty-handed in an attempt to get Hooker ‘Mighty Mo’ struggling in his fight with Benn.

The 32-year-old Texas-born Hooker fits the mold for the type of opponent Hearn has taken up against Conor Benn, as the American has lost two of his last three fights and looks like he’s nearing the end.

In Hook’s final battle, he was subdued by a 23-year-old young phenom Vergil Ortiz Jr. on March 20. That battle was amazing to watch because Hooker fought a terrifying and never competitive one for a second.

Ortiz beat him with huge shots from that contest, and you could argue that the fight should have stopped sooner to save Hooker from unnecessary punishment.

That’s the fighter Benn WILL fight if Hearn wants to throw him into the abyss, but he seems reluctant to do so, even though Conor is two years older than Vergil.

Hearn reveals he beat with his first two picks for Benn (20-0, 13 KOs) for the next fight, not taking the store Broker ‘Problem’ Adrien or 38 years old Robert ‘Ghost’ Guerrero.

“Any of them,” said Eddie Hearn, Boxing Matchroom promoter Professional boxing fan. “Adrien Broner really wanted a fight back first, and then he talked about fighting Conor Benn.

“Guerrero was with PBC, who didn’t seem to want to send fighters into big fights with us, and Hooker was a fighter, and he was a very good fighter.

Former four-time world champion Broner is the prize Hearn most wants for Conor Benn to fight next, but ‘The Problem’ wants a warm-up match before potentially being the son of the British legend popular. Nigel Benn.

If Conor had Nigel’s talent, perhaps Hearn wouldn’t have needed to scour the ranks of the older fighters to find an opponent for him to beat.

Former WBO lightweight champion Hooker (27-2-3, 18 KOs) recently knocked down is Hearn’s Third Pick for the 25-year-old Benn to fight in April.

Hooker is about to lose the knockout

We’ll see if Hooker, 32, accepts an offer to travel to the UK to play ## 5 WBA, 7 WBA, # 7 WBC Benn in his backyard in London.

Hooker lost the 140-lb WBO belt two and a half years ago in a sixth-round knockout to WBC champion Jose Ramirez.

In that skirmish, 32-year-old Hooker easily created favorable conditions for Ramirez by repeatedly stepping back to the ropes and covering in a defensive position.

Benn puts up a good deal with boxers who fight back against the ropes, as we saw in his final bout against the lackluster 37-year-old veteran. Chris Algieri on December 11 in Liverpool, England.

Although Algieri was considered an incredibly intelligent fighter, he fought like an amateur with the way he constantly fought with ropes, leaving no room for himself to avoid. giant punches thrown at him by Benn.

Without the strength to hold Benn, Algieri was quickly knocked out for four innings in a striking reel knockout.

“It was a very, very difficult fight. He had a great fight with Ortiz last time, stopped with a hand wound,” said Heart of Hooker.

“If he wants to and the team wants to, it would be nice to do that fight in London,” Hearn said of wanting the next Hooker for Conor Benn.

In order for Benn to progress, Hearn should consider better matching him against the opposition. One gets the feeling that Hearn is raiding old folk homes to select opponents for Benn, and that suggests to some that he lacks confidence in him.

Benn’s famous dad, Nigel, isn’t as fit for children’s mittens as Conor, but of course, he’s got more talent. In every department, Nigel is a better fighter than Conor Benn has shown so far.

Conor will never have the size, hand speed, power, inside of the game, or toughness that his famous father Nigel possessed. So that explains why Hearn is up against Benn only against their proudest older fighters and not against talented opponents that can help him improve, like DavidAvanesyan, Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis and Vergil Ortiz Jr.

To some boxing fans, it seems that Hearn is solely focused on matching Benn in surefire matches so that he continues to make money based on the fact that he is the son of the famous Nigel Benn.

It’s the same thing we saw when Julio Cesar Chavez Jr made millions from being the son of the famous Mexican boxer Julio Cesar Chavez. Some boxing fans believe Julio Jr got into a fight he probably wouldn’t have if it weren’t for him as the son of Chavez Sr.
