Eddie Hearn insists Canelo will have ‘no problem’ fighting Usyk
Saul ‘Canelo’ Álvarez enjoys the legacy in the sport – that’s obvious – and he proves it by moving with weights and trying to hit as many belts as he can.
Recently, the Mexican tennis player has fallen in the light weight division. Although in 2019 he moved up to 175th and beat Sergey Kovalev to win the WBO world title, everyone knows that the Russian has had better days. The match ended with Canelo.
In 2022, he walks back to the scene to face a prime minister Dmitri Bivol is different. The Mexican was completely overpowered by the big man and backed down to 168 lb with his tail between his legs.
A match in that super-middleweight division against David Benavidez – who was next up against former Caleb Plant’s Canelo – was called upon by a fan and Benavidez himself, who even said Canelo was dodging.
Eddie Hearn, who is currently promoting the champion, told DAZN . boxing program that Canelo would never shirk that fight – or any other.
“Never was I under the impression – never even doubted – that there was a boxer he wouldn’t fight. I feel because of what Canelo has given to the sport and because of the risks he’s taken, because of the fight he’s been in, I think he really wants these champions to do the same. same way and follow the same path. For me, people like David Benavidez need to make a statement to fight.”
His boxer is so ambitious, he will even go beyond lightweight and go up against one of the greatest heavyweight cruisers of modern times and perhaps history – Oleksandr Usyk – now home unified heavyweight champion of the world.
“Everything is ‘no problem, no problem’. After Usyk beat AJ, you know, I joked with him – ‘no problem, I’ll fight Usyk.’ Whether you think he succeeded or you think he has a chance, with all due respect, he will actually fight Usyk in cruiser class. He plays against Bivol at 175. He will have no problem playing against Benavidez at 160.”
There have been whispers of a battle between two of the sport’s biggest stars, but fans dismiss them as unrealistic, and perhaps it will.
Having said that, if Canelo is willing, and Usyk has, in the past, confirmed that he’ll be joining as a sort of ‘weird fight’Then strange things happened in the sport of boxing.
