Eddie Hearn believes Canelo will fight in London in May against John Ryder

Via Brian Webber: Today, Eddie Hearn said he’s interested in pitting undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez against his WBO-mandatory John Ryder in London.

Ryder defeated Zach Parker last weekend to put himself in a position to challenge Canelo as a WBO muster.

Canelo (58-2-2, 39 KOs) wants to take part in an adjustment match in May to check on the left wrist he just had surgery on; Ryder is the ideal safe opponent for him.

“John Ryder just won an interim title with the WBO. He’s an official man for Canelo Alvarez,” Eddie Hearn told fight TV center about Canelo Alvarez’s next potential fight in May.

“It’s a game that we can hold in London, it would be great to bring Saul to London,” Hearn continued.

“It’s a game that we can hold in Mexico, which, again, would be great. We can do it in Vegas; we can do it in LA. It really depends on Eddy Reynoso and Saul. If they think they want a temporary fight, that’s a great fight for them,” Hearn said of Ryder.

“John Ryder succeeded. He beat Daniel Jacobs. He’s beaten, and he’s beaten Zach Parker, his must-have, so we’ll see what happens this week as we chat with Eddy.

“Well, I haven’t had a conversation to say, ‘is that the date you want?’ But famously, that will be the day, especially if it’s in Mexico or the US,” Hearn said when asked if Canelo will face Cinco de Mayo next May.

“At this stage, it’s about presenting Saul and Eddy Reynoso with offers and numbers for that fight. The numbers change depending on its location. Obviously, if you do it in Vegas, you’ll make more money than if you did it in Mexico or London.

“I believe that will attract Saul internationally, and it would be great to be in either of those two venues. He’s a global star and can fight wherever he wants,” Hearn said of Canelo.

Canelo vs. Bivol 2: Who wins?

Many boxing fans don’t understand why Canelo would want to take on WBA lightweight champion Dmitry Bivol after the undefeated boxer coached him last May.

Canelo wasn’t robbed in that match, and it didn’t come close either despite being oddly scored by the three judges running the competition. The way Bivol (21-0, 11 KOs) beat Canelo one-sidedly made the rematch unnecessary.

It is possible that Bivol not only destroyed Canelo in the rematch in September 2023 but also knocked him out because this time he will vent his heart.

For the fans who remember seven punch combo that Bivol threw in the fifth inning against Canelo, he could have stopped him if he continued to throw like that.

The referee won’t be able to stand watching Canelo get attacked by Bivol much longer if he continues like this. It was lucky for Canelo that Bivol turned to punch him from the outside rather than continuing carpet-bomb him with shots while he hid helplessly against the ropes.

In Canelo’s view, taking part in a second game against Bivol will appease his fans, who won’t forgive him if he doesn’t at least try to avenge his loss.

At the same time, Canelo confronts Bivol again giving him a convenient excuse to continue avoiding ‘Mexican Monster’ David Benavidez.

The loss to Bivol gave Canelo an excuse because he could tell that the defeat was due to him fighting a bigger guy from the 175 lb class, which dampened the heat somewhat. But if Canelo loses to super-middleweight Benavidez (26-0, 23 KOs), there will be no excuse for his fans other than to admit that he lost to a better boxer.

If Canelo is beaten by Benavidez and potentially stopped, it could lead to fewer pay-per-view buys for his matches on DAZN. Fans won’t be excited to watch Canelo fight if he is beaten by Benavidez as he will be considered yesterday’s news.
