Drea seems to have the perfect life, one that she has worked incredibly hard to maintain. She was on top of the world as she entered her final year at a prestigious prep school, but her life fell apart during a viral video. A sex tape she sent to her boyfriend, Max, was leaked.
She believes he has something to do with it, but he turns out to be innocent. He claims he was hacked. Drea punches him in the bonfire in front of the whole school. Suddenly, she’s the queen bee gone. She’s on behavioral probation and could lose her scholarship if anything else happens to Max.
More than anything, Drea was angry at herself for letting her guard down. She decided to put aside all the rage she had revenge.
That summer, Eleanor met Drea at tennis camp. After eavesdropping on some bathroom gossip, Eleanor tells Drea that Erica Norman leaked a video of her. Drea acted quickly, trapping Erica and driving her out of the camp.
After that, Drea’s car wouldn’t start, so Eleanor invited her to come along. Eleanor poured all her guts into Drea. She revealed that when she was 13, her whole life fell apart. She knew she was weird but didn’t tell anyone until a special girl came alone. Eleanor called it “the best moment of my life”. However, the girl told everyone that Eleanor tried to hold her down and kiss her. “She turned me into this predator. No one comes near me. She destroyed me,” Eleanor told Drea before revealing that the girl was Carissa Jones.
As school began, Eleanor pitched an idea to Drea: revenge each other. Drea, ready for revenge, happily agrees to this plan. First and foremost, Drea gives Eleanor a teen movie makeover.
Drea wanted real proof that Max was a hypocrite so she could destroy him, so she let Eleanor slip into Max’s inner circle. They try to expose Max by revealing his messages revealing he is sleeping with girls from all sects. Max tries to turn the situation in his favor.
Drea is irritated when she finds out that she has lost Yale, her dream school. She no longer holds back. She learns that Eleanor has to go to the Admissions Party, a “completely depraved” night, in order to get Max dirty. Drea’s determination to destroy Max makes her forget Eleanor’s birthday. When Max and his friends throw Eleanor a surprise party, Drea shows up and shoots a scene.
When her car wouldn’t start, Drea called her mechanic and learned that someone had removed her spark plugs the last time she brought the car in. She had a feeling that Eleanor took it out. Drea begins to investigate, starting with Carissa. Carissa reveals that Eleanor was her first girlfriend, but back then she was called Nora. Eleanor’s since rhinoplasty and name change.
The most disturbing thing was that Drea had started rumors about Eleanor years ago. Nora Cutler is “Nosy Nora” Cutler from day camp. Eleanor has been cheating on Drea the whole time. Eleanor actually arranged their first meeting.
Eleanor admits that after the ring dinner, she will carry out her plan. She felt like Drea had changed. But after the birthday party, she realizes that Drea hasn’t changed.
Drea returns home to find Eleanor waiting for her. Eleanor has had the upper hand all this time. In Drea’s own words, “Narcissists are too self-centered to realize they’re being played around.”
Eleanor reveals that the worst part of all this is that Drea doesn’t even remember what she did to her. Eleanor’s plan is far from over. She orders Drea to come back with her friends, go to the Admissions Party, and make them all do crazy things. When the video is leaked, everything is traced back to Drea. Drea and her friends will be destroyed. To ensure Drea’s compliance, Eleanor threatens to involve Drea’s mother.
A panicked Drea was driving her car when Eleanor crashed into her. This needs to happen in order for Drea to be close to her former friends. There’s nothing like a good pity party.
The night of the Admissions Party, Eleanor brought Drea a hidden camera brooch on it. Drea twisted the knife she always had in Eleanor by revealing that “Nosy Nora” was Eleanor to their friends. The emotional Eleanor rushed in, and Drea followed her. I’m sorry, Drea. She knew it was a low shot. Drea finished beating the brooch. “You might be the only true friend I ever had,” Drea confessed. She wished she could retract the rumor. “I will regret what I did to you forever,” Drea said.
And here is another turning point. Max has everything between Drea and Eleanor. He goes looking for them after checking Eleanor’s phone. Max admits that he hates Drea. I will let go of this hatred until I see the text. Now he threatens to “totally destroy” both of them. He accuses Drea of taking advantage of him and thinks no one would care about her if he didn’t. She Teen magazine Spotlight video is his breaking point.
“So I told you I love you. I ask you to make that video. And then I sent it to the whole school,” Max confessed to Drea in front of Eleanor. Max proudly walks away. He thinks he won. As it turned out, Eleanor had her own tape recorder. She made “revenge mother” Drea proud.
They decide to take down Max once and for all – together. They played the video in front of everyone in the party. Everyone turns on Max. He was eventually expelled, and Drea offered his position at Yale. After all that happened, Drea knew Yale wasn’t the end of it all. She has what she really needs: a real friend. She went to sunbathe with Eleanor.
