Dramatic courtroom video shows jury thwart convicted criminal’s escape attempt
A man convicted of child assault tried to flee a Maine courthouse but two jurors and a detective quickly stopped the escape attempt.
Nicholas Carter, 31, ran out of the Skowhegan courthouse in handcuffs on Wednesday. He was convicted of aggravated assault of a 14-month-old child, according to Portland Press Herald.
A series of videos shows Carter running down a hallway in the courthouse while still handcuffed and dodging an individual who attempts to block him. He can then be seen fleeing the courthouse, chased by several other individuals.
Additional video footage shows Carter running through the parking lot and eventually appearing to stumble into the yard where two jurors and a detective arrest him.
Carter was convicted after a three-day trial in Somerset County Superior Court.
Sentencing on the aggravated assault charge is expected to take place in the coming weeks.
