Dozens of injured after-school buses overturned on its side in the Bronx
A bus carrying dozens of bus drivers crashed on an exit Thursday morning in the Bronx. A total of 37 adults – 36 passengers and the driver – were on board at the time of the crash. No children were reported to be on board or to participate.
News PIX11 report the yellow bus overturned around 6 a.m. on the ramp from Exit 1A for Hutch north to Bruckner Avenue west. A preliminary investigation found that the bus driver attempted to exit the highway from the middle lane, which caused the bus to overturn after the driver lost control, according to a report. NBC4 New York.
Three of the passengers were hospitalized in serious condition. The other 33 passengers on board were treated at the scene with non-life-threatening injuries, and then taken to area hospitals for evaluation. The driver refused medical attention.
Mayor Eric Adams released a statement confirming The bus has been contracted by the New York City Department of Education, and families should expect delays on bus routes both morning and afternoon. He added that schools will be reaching out to affected families.
“The safety of every member of the community is our top priority and thankfully, at this time, no major injuries have occurred on board. Also, there were no students on the bus,” Adams said.

The side of the bus reads “Consolidated Bus Transit,” which, according to the company website, has been in business for 50 years. Brooklyn-The based company provides transportation services for regular school buses, route buses and charter buses.
It’s not clear exactly where the bus was headed, but a spokesman for the United Bus Transportation Company told NBC4 its safety officials were investigating the crash.
“Right now our immediate concern is for the safety and well-being of our employees,” the statement said. “Consolidation is proud to be a safe and reliable transportation company providing transportation services in New York City for over 40 years. We will work with the police and the Department of Education to determine the cause of the accident.”
According to NBC, most of the injuries involved bruising as well as neck and back pain, and all of the victims were able to get out of the wrecked bus on their own.
