It’s been a busy year for Apple, with the company updating pretty much everything from Iphonethe Professional AirPodsthe Apple Watchand iPad and iPad Pro.

So many new things to be excited to discover, all ready to drain your wallet during the holiday season.

That said, there are still Apple products that you should avoid, either because they are about to be refreshed or they won’t be updated as Apple is phasing them out.

Remember, 2023 is coming and a whole new update cycle awaits us.

Shopping tips: Don’t put off buying Apple stuff until the last minute. already have buzz about the shortage of iPhone 14 Proand I doubt that things will get better in the coming weeks.

List of “Naughty”:

  • Small iPad: Over a year old, it’s hard to justify the $500 starting price here, unless you really want the smaller form factor for something specific (like a drone) drive or use as a video monitor).
  • iMac 24 inch: 18 months is a long time in tech, and the M1 chip was dropped by M2, so that’s a lot of money to pay for a Mac that could be refreshed as early as 2023.
  • Mac Mini: The first Mac M1 and I hope it fits a M2 upgrade early 2023. I’ll avoid it until then.
  • MacBook Pro M1 14 and 16 inch: Now that the M2 chip has landed, it is safe to say that these laptops are currently on loan and will likely be refreshed in early 2023.
  • Mac Pro: With the transition to Apple Silicon underway, this great currency investment just doesn’t make sense at this point. Avoid this critical period unless you really have to replace a broken machine.

So much power in a small box. In fact, this is a workstation with a form factor not much larger than the Mac Mini.

You can choose between the M1 Max and M1 Ultra (unless you’re dealing with extremely high GPU workloads you should be fine with the M1 Max products) and can spend anything from $2,000 to $4,000 on this hardware.
