Donald Trump says 2024 campaign will be his last if he loses

Former President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he “doesn’t think” he will run for president again in 2028 if he is unsuccessful in his bid to return to the White House in 2024.

“No, I don’t think so. I think so, yes,” Trump said when journalist Sharyl Attkisson asked him if he would run for re-election.

The comment is notable because Trump appears to have ruled out a fourth run for the White House and because he has rarely acknowledged the possibility that he could legitimately lose the election. Trump has often insisted that this could only happen if there was widespread fraud, a false accusation he did in 2020 and he done before again in his 2024 presidential campaign.

Trump will be 82 in 2028, a year older than current President Joe Biden. Biden dropped out of the race in July after a disastrous debate performance and months of criticism from Trump and other conservatives that he was too old and erratic for the job.

Attkisson interviewed Trump for her show “Full Measure.” During the 22-minute interview, Trump defended his record on the coronavirus pandemic. He took credit for the development of COVID-19 vaccines developed during his presidency, saying “they’re working on them and we’ll find out” whether they’re safe.

Trump said Republicans are increasingly skeptical of vaccines even though Democrats trust them.

The 2028 statement came at the end of the interview, which also included a question about how Trump stays healthy. “I try to eat right,” the former president said, drawing an incredulous response from Attkisson, who noted that Trump has become notorious for his fondness for hamburgers.

“Proper hamburgers,” Trump said.
