Don Mattingly will not return as Marlins manager next season

Don Mattingly and Miami Marlins have mutually agreed that he will not return as the team’s manager for the 2023 season.

Has managed the Marlins expertly for seven years and his contract expires at the end of this season. He said in a statement that all sides agreed that a new voice was needed.

The Marlins filed 437-583 during his tenure with the team.

Before managing the Marlins, Mattingly spent five years in the Los Angeles Dodgers trenches, where he never had a losing record and won at least 90 games in three consecutive years. His only post-season appearance with the Marlins was in the year-long extended playoffs in 2020, where the Marlins finished the shortened season with a 31-29 record and finished second in the National League East.

The Marlins are followed by losing 95 games a year ago and are on track to lose 90 games again this season.
