Dmitry Bivol will fight late April or early May, undecided on rematch with Canelo at 168

Via Sean Jones: Dmitry Bivol said he will soon begin training camp for his next match against a still-to-be-determined opponent in late April or May.

Bivol isn’t sure if he’d want to drop to 168 for a rematch with Canelo Alvarez if that fight takes place as he hasn’t competed in that weight class for a long time. Canelo will be preparing in May, so he won’t face Bivol until September if all goes well.

If Bivol drops to 168, he may be depleted of weight and too weak to beat Canelo a second time. The last thing Bivol wants is to fight Canelo in a weakened state.

WBA light heavyweight champion Bivol (21-0, 11 KOs) can defend against Eddie Hearn-promoted Joshua Buatsi in his next bout; Buatsi (16-0, 12 KOs) is ranked #1 with the WBA, so it’s a clear opponent for him.

Hearn will likely try to have Bivol take on Buatsi in London, which would not be ideal for him, as he nearly lost to British boxer Craig Richards in Manchester, England, in May 2021.

If Bivol plays Buatsi next, he should fight him in a neutral venue like the United States. Fighting him in England only caused trouble.

It might be too risky for Bivol to have a chance again if he has the crowd, the referee and the boxers he will be up against.

“Of course, the fight against Canelo was more difficult because a lot of pressure was on me during the game and during the match, but I handled it,” Dmitry Bivol told boxing society when asked who is the tougher fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gilberto Ramirez.

“Those are two different wars, but both are difficult. First of all, I want more belts. It doesn’t matter who. I just want more belts. Light or super medium, which is easier to fight, I like this fight more [to a Canelo rematch].

“Of course, that would be enough motivation for me to do 168but I need to think about that more because I haven’t been at 168 in years,” Bivol said when asked if he would drop to 168 for a chance to contest Canelo’s undisputed title. .

If this fight is possible, let’s talk about it; let’s do it, and I think I’ll be ready,” said Bivol.

“There have been some conversations starting this week. They are very beginning,” Bivol’s manager, Vadim Kornilov, said when asked if negotiations had begun with Canelo’s promoters about the rematch with Bivol. “We’ll see where this leads us and see how serious it is. Maybe we’ll start talking about some terms.

“Yes, of course, I feel respect from boxing fans and boxing organisations. I should have achieved more to get more attention, but now I’m happy with what I got,” Bivol said when asked if he feels more noticed after his previous win. Canelo Alvarez and Gilberto Ramirez in 2022 or not.

“What I am getting now is also what motivates me in the future, to get more attention and get more respect. That’s the driving force. I said at the beginning of my relationship with Matchroom, I respect Eddie and our relationship is very good, and he always finds a way to fight for me. I think he’s one of the best promoters right now.

“Perhaps this year, he is the best promoter in the world. He should get this reward. I am delighted to be working with Eddie and Frank.

“I’m not sure if I’ll be there because I’ll have a training camp, and I must be ready for May or the end of April because I want to get a fight for the time being. I have to think about that,” said Bivol when asked if he would attend the match between Artur Beterbiev and Anthony Yarde on January 28 in London.
