Dmitry Bivol is 100% focused on defeating Canelo Alvarez

Via Dan Ambrose: Dmitry Bivol is 100% focused on defeating Canelo Alvarez on May 7. Unbeatable WBA light heavyweight champion Bivol (19-0, 11 KOs) says he may not care that Canelo set up a fight after his May 7 bout with Gennadiy Golovkin on May 17. 9.

It was important for Bivol not to be distracted by bitter feelings about Canelo planning the September and December battles.

Bivol, 31, just wants to prepare as best he can so he feels he can function well enough to feel good about himself later on.

Canelo (57-1-2, 39 KOs) and Bivol will play on DAZN pay-per-view on May 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is the first installment of the showdown between the two, the $100 million + deal between Canelo and Matchroom Boxing & DAZN.

If Bivol defeats Canelo, he will cause a lot of problems for him regarding his second fight of the deal against Golovkin. If Canelo loses to Bivol, he will likely need/want to fight him in an immediate rematch rather than moving forward to face Golovkin.

The only way Canelo can choose not to rematch is if Bivol defeats him in a one-sided way like he did with Joe Smith Jr, Jean Pascal and Sullivan Barrera. It was all a one-way fight with Bivol defeating them deliciously.

“For me, it doesn’t matter. The main point is that we will be fighting on May 7th,“Dmitry Bivol said to Fighthype when asked if he felt disrespected because the fight with Gennadiy Golovkin was negotiated for Canelo on September 17.

“It doesn’t bother me because I have a chance,” Bivol said. “I have an opponent who will fight me. This is what I have to think about. This makes me happy. This opportunity for me. I don’t think about the judges,” said Bivol.

Well, for now, Bivol says he doesn’t care about the referees, but he might feel differently if he lost to Canelo by a controversial decision. That will be another story.

“Canelo was better in the second game,” Bivol said of the Mexican star’s two matches against Gennadiy Golovkin. “Of course, he’s getting better,” Bivol said of Canelo’s improvement since his loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013.

“I want to prepare my good sides and see him in the ring and fight him,” said Bivol.

The way to beat Canelo is for Bivol to focus on boxing him, and not go out looking to beat him as that would leave him vulnerable to counterattacks.

Bivol has a pretty good chin, but it will be difficult for him to capture Canelo’s tackles all night.

“The camp went well. I have good partners, a good location, and my team goes with me. Everything is good,” Bivol told Little Giant Boxing.

“I just realized what I would do in the ring to be the winner, but I didn’t think about what it would be like when they raised their hands. I only think about the single war.

“It doesn’t matter what happens after the war. What’s important is what happens in the fight,” Bivol said as he made it clear that he took part in the fight.

“Every fighter is different. When fighting against someone, it’s a surprise,” said Bivol. “You can expect something but every time you get in the ring, it’s something different.

“Once I’m in the ring, it’s always a new fight. I don’t think about other fighters, another fight, another belt. I have my day on May 7th. I only think about May 7th and only about my opponent.

“It’s unprofessional to think about everything. You should think about your deal,” said Bivol.
