DJ Akademiks Responds to Lil Baby’s Criticisms on “From Now on” and “First Priority”

The clip of the interview begins with Vlad mentioning Baby’s disagreement with Akademiks not one but two songs from his recent album, Only me.

“Well, Lil Baby Dissected You On His New Album twice,” Vlad began. “The second one is a bit odd because I don’t think anyone ever argues that you are richer than Lil Baby…”

DJ Akademiks replied.

My new nickname for Baby is Short Bus Baby. He’s clearly not smart, man. Because of my history with him, he thinks I’m talking about him when I’m not talking about him. He hit me privately, I explained to him that I wasn’t talking about him – and he was still extremely upset. He would come up with this nonsense when I said, ‘Okay, clearly this guy is being stupid or maybe it’s just Short Bus Baby!’ I’m sorry to tell you. No one with half a brain would even think to discuss me and Lil Baby – as it sounds stupid out loud – like finance.

Akademiks then went on to say that he doesn’t consider Lil Baby’s mention of him “condescending”. He just thinks the 28-year-old rapper is “stupid”, adding that he has “Tourette moments” from time to time.

Akademiks went on to say that Lil Baby is “fighting the Percs and lots of demons.”

And by the way, I don’t think it’s a contempt, I just think he’s stupid. He has one of those Tourette moments from time to time. You see him in the corner, he just punches the air, he just spills the water bottle. He’s fighting the Percs and lots of demons. I get it, I’m not mad about that.

Akademiks Says Rappers “Will Never Win the Media”

DJ Akademiks went on to explain that rappers will never be successful when they decide to criticize the media. He said that media reps are essentially responsible for how rappers and their careers are perceived. Like how rappers are “favored” by the public.

Here’s the thing, I’ve said this to every rapper in the game: you’ll never win the media. I don’t know why rappers are on the media; you will never win.

I see, you put your social media at the center, but media drives the story, media gives the feeling that your career is considered – your personality is considered. And I know a lot of rappers who either don’t understand certain types of looks or they’re not appreciated by audiences because they’re assholes to journalists.

Akademiks continues to use rappers Troy Avenue as an example of my point of view.

You know why Troy Ave ended up in his shoes? He slapped a few people from VICE. There’s a redemption arc and I play the long game with every rapper. There’s an arc of redemption when a rapper realizes they’re assholes and turns around. By the way, Lil Baby is not an asshole.
