DIY clay decorations
Just in time for the holidays, you can make your own decorations and gift cards using oven-baked clay!
Baked clay in the oven is a quick and easy way to make decorations in any shape you want (just use a cookie cutter!) And you can decorate them with paints, brushes, Stamps or paint puffs for a festive activity for all ages.
Is there a best clay to use for clay ornaments?
As long as you are using a clay that eventually hardens, you should be fine. But choosing a harder oven-baked clay over the texture of soft air-dry clay will give you the ability to laminate and get cleaner edges with your cookie cutter.
Munition:
-oven baked clay (we love this!)
–stapler
–twine for baking (I also love the colored baker’s twine for this!)
–Acrylic paint, puff paint, stamps and ink, or paint pen
–cookie mold
-a straw
–paint brushes
Start by rolling your clay into a thin, even sheet (about 5/8″ thick). Using your cookie cutter, cut shapes to different sizes.
You can make any cookie cutter shapes you have in your cupboard!
Next, use a straw to poke holes in the top of all your decorations.

Bake according to the instructions on the package. If you are using baking clay in the original Sculpey oven, it should be placed on a glass plate or plate, baked at 275°F for 15 minutes for every ¼ inch of clay thickness.
After you’ve fired the clay and let the decorations cool, design to your heart’s content! Finish the decorations with cake twine or ribbons or other thin yarn.
I did with paint, stamps, and some glitter topcoat, but you can also use black and white paint and brushes like our friend Kelli did.

The smaller sized ornaments work just as well as personalized gift tags on the gift box, and the larger ones are perfect for decorating your Christmas tree!
